And of course now that I'm in a new building there are different people now seeing me come in on my bike.
How many miles do you ride?
You live in Mooresville!?!
What road do you take?
What time do you leave?

About 30F for the 13 miles in. Happy Friday!

Beautiful, sunny 32F morning looking forward to 50's later today. I was rolling along enjoying not having the studded tires and about half way I noticed I was working really hard, thought I was just out of shape. Had an almost flat rear tire... duh! I really didn't want to fix it so jammed a co2 cartridge in and took a chance that I'd make it. Wrong... had to do more co2 but at least I can change the tube inside!

Last night's ride was problematic: they were milling the two outer lanes of a major cross street, and traffic was a mess.

This morning I decided to take the "long" way in (11 vs. 10 miles) to avoid that hot spot. 40 degrees was cooler than I remembered, especially when I hit 6 of the first 11 traffic lights when they were all red.

Almost to work, and I was headed to the bike rack when a car came around the corner. Stupid cager, I mentally mumbled, while I dodged across the parking lot. The guy caught me at the elevator and told me he almost didn't see me. I respect Theo, and so after reflecting about it a little, I realized I was the one who turned across traffic. Oops. Lesson noted, I'll try to pay more attention next time.

above freezing and wet (again) this morning. Front derailleur has been very sticky this winter. (grit filled, no doubt) I have to unclip and kick it if I want it to shift to the small ring.

Weather looks lovely for commuting the next few weeks - boo for the Sierra snowpack, but lovely for me. But it seems very likely I'll be wanted by my wife to tour new preschools, so I don't know how much I'll get to ride. Perhaps I'll do the leave-truck-at-work-overnight thing

My first commute by bike for the new year! It was a nice ride to work with the temp at 31 f degrees. My front light was not charged very well so I did not have great light up front. I realized this not being charged issue after putting the light on the bike, all dressed and ready to roll, so I decided to ride anyway. Other than that it was quite a pleasant ride to work this am.

Almost the end of January already. The month/year started off with lower miles due to holidays and snow, but last week was a solid 10 commutes.

This morning I had a nice tailwind for about 3 miles. Fastest mile was 22mph! At least that's something exciting for this Monday. Warm at 50+F, but overcast and not going to get much warmer during the day. It rained all day Sunday so the streets were still a bit wet, but no puddling issues that I found.

-2F this morning, but the wind was barely discernible so the temp really wasn't bad. For some reason my hip/upper hamstring area got unusually cold. I wore the same gear I always do so I'm not sure what caused that.

Traffic seemed a touch more aggressive than usual.

We got about 2.5" of snow Saturday night. Apparently the city deemed that not enough to warrant plowing, so the back streets were in rough shape. They did put down chemicals on the main streets and they had received enough traffic that they weren't in bad shape. When I reached the MUP I expected it to be unplowed, but was pleasantly surprised to discover that they had gone down one side of it with a Bobcat with a brush so there was a 4' section that was mostly clear. The brush left a thin layer of snow and ice and didn't do as good a job as the blade on the truck that they normally use. Plus with the truck they can clear the whole width of the MUP with one pass. Not sure why they changed it up, but it was better than not plowing at all so I'm not going to complain.

Welcome back @essiemyra! 30F this morning after a weekend of near 50. A nice tailwind too which doesn't bode well for the ride home

Nice ride in. This weekend, riding was limited by showers and then general wetness. I'd have ridden through it to get to work, but it didn't look like much fun. Work week is here, so it was clear, cool, and would have been a great day for a long ride. :/

drove today because of two reasons. 1. bunch of rain and it was raining coming in and just didn't feel like riding in the rain. 2. they were doing some sort of work on the water in the building and I was afraid of riding 12 miles in 40F and rain and if it was not fixed there would be no hot shower.

I rode all three days I worked last week. 72 miles in 3 days aint bad for January!

While I've been grumbling inwardly about the record high temps and relentless Santa Ana winds, I'm very much looking forward to the Super Blue Blood moon Wednesday morning. The total (umbral) eclipse coincides perfectly with my morning commute, and I should have an excellent view from the top of the transverse range.

Last month the SpaceX Falcon 9 launch filled the sky right behind me just before I turned down the final street to my house during my evening commute - lots of spectacles lately!

Just kind of zoned out on the way in. Went shopping on the way home. A bro made a poor effort at "rolling coal" on me. Transients who had formed a camp around the Safeway were apparently rousted about ten minutes after my visit, but there's not far for them to go, they will just make another camp in another place.

I had a bit of a headwind on the way home last night after having a tail wind for part of the morning ride.

A good 15 miles this morning in about 33F. The wind was mostly the same direction as yesterday which meant assistance for about half the ride. Luckily I found some cross / head wind sections to keep my pace in check. Sunny and clear out now, but they say the high will only be about 43F.

Clear but a pretty good north (tail) wind. I thought I was overdressed for freezing weather until I made the right turn west, and all of a sudden it cooled down.

Took a different route in, which has good and bad points. It's a couple miles longer (12 miles vs. 10), and there's more and faster traffic. On the other hand, looking half a mile up the street, it looked like there was an accident at the intersection I'm avoiding.

Who in their right mind starts milling a street to repave it in January, with another month or two of freezing weather still to come? I know it's an election year, but I'm not inclined to vote for any fool that's going to leave a bad street surface torn up even worse for a couple months!

Snow falling this morning, sticking to cars and stuff, but not the roads. Made me kinda wet. Even so, there were a lot of guys out spreading a thick layer of salt around the train station... totally unnecessary and environmentally stupid.

Random Act of Kindness his morning. A car was pulled over to the curb of a wide neighborhood road. I've seen cars there before and the driver may be on the phone or waiting for something. As I passed, I realized he was waiting for his windshield to defrost. I was about one mile from work and had a couple of minutes to spare.

After a quick thought, I turned around and went back to the car. He put his window down and I asked if I could scrape his windshield. He said, "That's alright, I've got it." I asked, "Is it on the inside or outside," because it kind of looked like the inside was fogged up too. He said, "The outside. I thought I was okay but after pulling out I couldn't see."

By this time I was off my bike, into my bike trunk for my wallet, and pulling out a credit card. I said, "I usually just use a credit card or membership card for mine." I laid my bike off to the side in the grass and started scraping. He said, "Wow, that does work well." It took me less than 30 seconds to do both sides. He was thanking me and I said, "I just want to make sure you can see all the bikers out there," somewhat sarcastically as he is not likely to see any others besides me all day.

He got back in his car and I got back on my bike and we went our separate ways.

21F for 13ish miles.

Oh yea, I also saw a bit of the lunar eclipse when I left at 7am. It was pretty cool, but I think I'm confused on how the earth's shadow was hitting the top of the moon. I assume I was seeing the end of the eclipse, but may have been the beginning.
