More than one twitter feed is reporting the death of Paul Sherwen, known for the TdF play-by-play (pedal-by-pedal?).
He was particularly good as a foil for Phil LIggett, who, in all honesty, did need a brush-up on reality now and then.

Having watched pretty much every TdF (and countless other races) in the last almost 20 years I guess I've heard Paul's (and Phil's) voice more than most other TV voices.

Heard the news on the way to work this morning. Very sad. I think he grounded the TDF broadcast and kept Phil from going off the rails. Also enjoyed his work with some of the other commentators on the smaller races. Cycling will not be the same.

Sad news indeed. I can hear his voice clearly in my head. Not sure if the phrase was his or Phil's but I always loved the phrase about riders going deep into the "suitcase of courage". He'll be missed.

I really enjoyed his race coverage, after reading the news it seemed he really lived his life on his terms till the end, a toooooooooooo short of life at 62!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Tragic. So young for an active man who appeared in such fine shape. He was such a big part of the TDF coverage and it won't ever be the same without him. Both Paul and Phil brought such an air of dignity to the spectacle, they were so classy together, which unfortunately is such a rarity in today's sports world. Paul brought so much more than stats and facts. His coverage was that of an insider and he made it so personal.

Having never met the gentleman, I feel that I knew him well. What Paul Sherwen gave to the sport of cycling was a lifetime of good taste, good humor and a wealth of knowledge.
