Stumpjumper Comp - Pretty Mint - Help with the year??

I picked up a beautiful Stumpjumper the other day, all XT M730.

Owner was original purchaser and not really a biker. He told me he was a race car mechanic and used this as his pit bike to get around at the race track. From the looks of it i'd guess this thing has maybe a couple hundred miles on it??? Original price tag and owner's manual included. Looks like the seat came unglued, so I got to fix that otherwise it is good to go.

Kickstand and reflectors also included

I am trying to determine the year. I am thinking early 90s. Anyone know the year for sure? Owners manual does not have it. Thanks!

Now that you have 10 posts, you can upload pics. Without pics, ID'ing a bike is much more difficult.

That's fantastic! Except that I used my bike heavily over the past two decades, that's almost exactly how much I bought my StumpJumper for ... from Helen's.

Other than that, my best guess is pre-1994. That's about when thumbshifters disappeared, I think.

Ooh, just noticed the "Japan" sticker on the stem tube. Interesting. My StumpJumper FS from 1992 doesn't have that. Must be a clue in there.

That's a very pretty bike. I don't want to know how much you stole it for

Here's the catalog page for the 1991 Stumpjumper Comp. Very nice bike and the matte gray is an unusual color!

Best years for the Stumpy. Simple, seriously solid, and beautiful from every angle. You lucky dog, you!

Run, don't walk to toolbox, grab a 13 mm or whatever and remove kickstand. Then repost same picture.

Agreed. That’s the height of mtb sexiness for me. Find some Ground Control tires for that thing!

Maybe the 91 Stumpy could have either the thumblies or the push push? That is the one to have.

lol. kickstand, reflectors, that plastic thing between cassette and spoke all need to come off..... but then there is part of me that thinks this is like a time warp and I should leave it as is. My almost daily rider is a shogun prairie breaker team issue with very conservatively 30k miles on it. Maybe I'll just use the stumpjumper as a Sunday driver, i dunno.

That thing looks fresh out of the box. Time to get it dirty!
Seriously nice bike!

I like Stumpjumpers (I have an '88 Stumpjumper Comp and a '92 Stumpjumper) and this one has my favorite color scheme. This is a cool bike.
