Come on, Garmin. Don't let me down... I want it cheaper than a PT, just as useful, with no bugs, and I want it NOW. I don't think I'm asking for too much.

I REALLY hope this is reasonably priced. I can't afford a Quarq and don't want to deal with swapping a PT wheel around all the time. If these are in the Sub $500 range, I'm in.
Hopefully they release an Edge 500 firmware update that will understand the new power data. Hell, even if they don't I'd be happy with just plain old power.

You guys are delusional if you think this will be under $500.
Powermeters are reasonably priced already. You can't have everything you want in life for $5.

These were the first new-type power meters that I heard of (outside, PT, Quarq, etc...) and I like their concept the most. I just picked up a Psimet PT wheel but I wouldn't mind giving it to my son, and getting the Vector myself, but only if in the vicinity of PT price.

1st-generation power meter = scary. They all have problems that take a while to iron out. Even SRM, Quarq, and Powertap had their growing pains, but then there are the Ergomo and the ill-fated Polar system...
Best to wait a generation to make sure it doesn't suck.

Well, if they're Look pedal compatible, we already know the answer to that.

I'm still optimistic on the 'lowish' price. They keep saying "accessible to lots". $1500 isn't that accessible for a LOT of people.
PowerTap wheels are already <$1000. Who are they expecting to compete with at a price point near a couple PT wheels? Wired PTs are even cheaper.
I admit Sub $500 may be a bit too optimistic, but I think <$1000 is doable. You can get Speedplay Zero Ti for $335. Triple that and you're near $1000.

Plenty of chance but not this fall. As a reference note the $385 street price on "wired" power tap hubs which transmit to a nearby antenna. Hardware costs on a single pedal should be fairly similar.
If I were a marketing guy working for Garmin I'd eventually sell units around
< $400 targeting the recreational cyclist. Only one pedal measures power (sort of how ergomo bottom brackets work). Standard ANT+ messages without the pedal stroke analysis. Competes well against heart-rate only solutions, wired Powertaps, the Polar chain tension unit, and iBike. Priced similar to other impulse purchases like somewhat better-than-OEM wheel sets and Garmin head units to get at the relatively large market segment which does not use power meters.
$700 - $1100 targeting competitive and more serious recreational cyclists. Measures power on both pedals so it's "accurate enough to train by". Standard ANT+ messages without pedal stroke analysis. Competes well against wireless Powertaps that start at $700, Power2Max cranks for 800 Euros, etc.
$1500-$2500+ for the top of the market. Reports pedal stroke information like Metrigear showed so it can be used for fine-tuning. Less weight (Cycleops nets $400 to drop the first 212 grams with the same electronics package) and perhaps ceramic bearings (Cycleops gets $400 for ceramic bearings and 10 grams less). Competes against Powertap SLC+, Quarq cranks, SRM cranks.
For the roll-out I'd start at the high-end to separate more money from people willing to pay more but would prefer to spend less.

$385 street price for wired Powertaps is for a 5-6 year-old product.

If they're smart, $1000-$1200 and if it works good they will clean SRM and Saris' collective clocks.

IMO price is going to depend on how Garmin views this product and their competition. Because I don't see any technical reason why Garmin's marginal cost per set would be more than a few hundred dollars. At most. With R&D being a sunk cost, it all depends on how many units they want to move.
Assuming it works.
If they view it as a higher-end item and only sell a relatively small number, I can easily see it in the $1500+ ranges.
If they want to suck all the life out of their competition and move a much larger number, it might be well under $1000. Heck, maybe even $500. Because someone's eventually going to come out with sub-$500 power-measuring devices. (With sub-$500 corrected for inflation for all you pedants...)
