Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I got really dehydrated during only a 25 mile ride. It wasn’t even hot yet. I’m really sick of the humidity, and it’s going to get hotter and more humid starting tomorrow.

The only saving grace is that I saw a big Great Blue Herron and a ginormous snapping turtle in the canal.

I expect disapproval from @Velo Vol, but I am just happy you got back safely and saw 2 of nature's beautiful creatures. Kudos for you!

Tough week when 200 miles would get fifth. Last week that would have been second.

Oh, I was talking about the elevation lead. I think that you (and I) would need to travel another state to threaten his lead for the week.

Had a real smooth four day trip. Everything was on time, no broken planes, weather wasn’t bad. Last leg, it always goes to ****. Never fails. Luckily my connection home isn’t tight so I won’t miss my flight atleast.

You guys killed it this week. I wonder what miles I could get in if my job didn’t keep me away from my bike.

Went out for a leisurely 2 hour spin and got hammered in a downpour for about 40 minutes. Sheets of rain, big and deep puddles. I was mildly concerned about the possibility of a driver hitting me because of the poor visibility, but I was even more concerned that they'd hit a deep puddle and that the wave would knock me off of the bike and/or road. Made it home without issue, thankfully.

My nice, new Zipps, on the other hand, are sloshing something fierce. I'll have to see if there's a drain hole, otherwise I'll have to at least unseat the tire and remove the valve stem, I think.

I went for 2.5 hours and the drivers were bad. You know how sometimes drivers seem a lot more dangerous than normal? It was like that today. Plus, I had a rare double flat and only carry one tube so I had to patch one. I found some shade in a Taco Bell parking lot, luckily.

At least I didn't have to worry about overheating.

For a while, my jersey was billowing just enough to not make much contact with my skin (I'd unzipped a little earlier in the ride) and then I'd slow down and it'd collapse. The resulting smack of cold would result in a sharp, involuntary inhalation.

That and my brakes sounded as if were trying to imitate Vol's musical talents.

It’s called alpha-gal syndrome. It’s a thing. Not to be confused with alpha male syndrome.

Super high humidity/dew point this morning. I am not surprised. I took it easy on my recovery ride but still got saturated jersey and went through 2 bottles in just 40 miles.

It’s true what they say: it’s not the heat, it’s the humidity.
