If you don't have a car then you must not be a taxpaying home owner

I remember some of my neighbours assuming I must be hard up because my car was 17 years old (I still have the same car, three years later) and "obviously" I'd have had a better car if I had the money for it. That sort of thing suits me fine, I don't care if people think I'm poor. For the longest time my house was the run-down looking one on the street - that also suited me find because I figured any lowlifes in the area looking for places to burgle wouldn't bother with the house with peeling paint where the TV they could see through the window was an old CRT thing that they'd struggle to carry out of the house and even if they did they'd struggle to give it away.

Recycling is big business here at home, and our streets and roads are generally picked clean by the homeless, fund raising groups, or individuals looking for an extra buck. Anytime I see cans or bottles of any recycling value on the road or street, it's gone the next day.

I've cleared out two garages following the death of the owner. Goodwill wouldn't have wanted most of the crap I found. Fortunately the dumpster hire company was perfectly willing to take it away, for a price.

I know of what you speak! My dad had 4 buildings filled with stuff when he died. We used 6 of the bigger roll-off dumpsters! Funny thing is he had accumulated 6 garge sale bikes over the years - strictly deptmartment store stuff. The scrap place wouldn't take them with the tires so I took a long handled axe and took one or two wacks and cut the tire and rim and slipped the tires off and recycled the bikes!!

Are you serious? Atlantic City had "slum" driven crime problems before the casinos arrived and continue to have the same problems. Do you also wonder if police sirens blaring in Newark are due to gambling addiction?

I've been in Newark plenty of times. The crime in Newark is for a whole set of separate issues. I'm talking about Atlantic City because it's a smaller city that felt like walking in a war zone with all the police. I heard more sirens in AC than in Newark that day.

What makes you think the problems and causes of crime in Newark are any different than Atlantic City?
