Anyone doing the Tour de l'Alberta?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone doing the Tour de l'Alberta?

Are any of you doing the Tour de l'Alberta on July 27th?

https://www.bikeclub.ca/tda/index.html

If so ... which distance are you doing?

Whoa...

You know, I almost could have. I am spending a week in Sandpoint (19-26th), then was going to spend the following week in Calgary (26-1st).

Unfortunately, the price of gas has me cancelling the 2nd half of my trip to Calgary.

I assume you're going - if so be sure to file a dispatch here or on yer blog.

The Edmonton Bicycle & Touring Club:
https://www.bikeclub.ca/

The Elbow Valley Cycle Club (in Calgary):
https://www.elbowvalleycc.org/

The Alberta Randonneurs:
https://www.albertarandonneurs.com/

I'm a member of them all!!

And on July 5th, I rode the Lake Louise Bakery ride with EVCC ... up the Bow Valley Parkway. You might recognize some of the areas in these photos:

And if you're interested in really long rides, there is the Alberta Randonneur club I mentioned above, but there's also the BC Randonneurs ... I was a member of their club last year: https://www.randonneurs.bc.ca/index.html

You might also have a glance at the links on my website:

This is a little too far north for me. The 4 hour drive up, the cost of fuel and what that'll do to the environment, I'll ride around Calgary that weekend.

Thanks for letting us know ... have a good ride.

I just registered. I think I will stay in the Edmonton HI Hostel - at $29 a night it's the best deal I can find. (Re: gas cost... I drive a Matrix and should be able to do the entire trip on one tank of gas, about $50. And this is one of 2 out of town trips for me this summer).

If there are other Calgary (& area) riders going maybe we should think about carpooling?

I would NOT recommend the Edmonton Hostel!!!!!

I stayed there about half a dozen nights in my first semester last year ..... <<shudder>> .... it's up there among the worst hostels I've ever been in. I don't know, maybe weekends are better, but if it were during the week, you'd get very little sleep.

Morinville has a campground ... no idea what it's like, but it might be worth emailing them for info.

I rode it last year and really enjoyed it ... they put on an excellent event ... one of the better-run events I've participated in.

I may have to see if there is any interest from my club next year...

I looking forward to the Kananaskis Half Moon (again), or GT for next year however.

If you are riding this event, are you interested in meeting at the finish line?
