New (to me) bike day, Fuji America

Each Fuji I have worked on seems to have been a good bike. This is the first that fits me.
Found this yesterday on CL. Ad picture. I agreed to buy it and to hold it till today. It's rough and not stock.

Got off the train a couple of stops before home so I could test ride it.
Made home ok.

Wow, that is a big one! A friend of mine has toured all over the Midwest on his America. At one time he pulled a trailer behind with his two kids in it, plus panniers. His wife rides a trusty old Miyata 610 with a zillion miles on it as well.

So super cool! The America was a Class A bike.

I was just noticing that granny isn't much of a granny.

Looking forward to more pix and ideas of what you're going to do with it!

OK, peer pressure made update this today.

1981 (?) Fuji America 61cm. I measured 62, catalog says 61.

Serial # FJ000068

The seller bought this from what was large a recycled bike seller in St. Louis. Changes were made.
MTB stem, Terry saddle & seatpost, brakes, STX rear deraileur,Megarange 7s fw, and 7s Light action index shifters.

Paint is rough, chrome pretty good.

Stock items.
Sugino Mighty Tour 170 arms, 53-44-36 rings. Date code J-9,J-10
Ukai 700c rims.
Gyromaster 36h hubs. Date code 8 80, 9 80. (My bad eyes see Gyromoste on the hubs.) They are smooth.
Bars, they are narrow and i do not like that.

I'm looking forward to working on this one but trying to complete the one that is spread all over my bench.

The one in the OP photos is definitely not a 61 or 62cm. More likely a 67 cm, no?
