Talking Buying year old 2017 "new" e-bike - discounts??

looking at Stromer ST1 retail $3700... but 2017 model

if it still hasn't sold after a year lol how much of a discount from retail should I expect?

was hoping for $2500 (have seen some for $2999 ask)

any tips or good recommendations for sellers of this brand?

While the ebay price may be good, I'm not sure it's a great value.

I bought my ST-1 from a great shop; it was an older model (this was several years back) and it was discounted (but not as steeply as that ebay auction). Just before it's 2nd year anniversary, I was having some battery pack issues. After a through tune-up (new chain, new cassette, new brakes, etc.) it was still *slightly* off what the shop believed it ought to be (the head mechanic took it for a 30 mile ride). They replaced the pack under warranty. That would have been a very pricey bit to swallow.(**)

For various reasons, I've sometimes had to use an alternate shop. That has sometimes worked out well enough. Other times ... not so much.

An ST-1 that's working properly, with a solid pack is a really awesome ride. If you get one that's been ill-used (or poorly set-up), assume a relatively pricey rebuild (tearing it all apart and restoring it to how it ought to have been set-up to ...is a lot of work ).

If you price a battery and good going over (from an LBS that's stromer savvy and you trust) and add that to the discounted price (if sourcing from someone other than an LBS you trust) and it's still a good deal ... go for it. If that's going to be about equal, I'd go with the LBS and pay more upfront.

(**) I'll never know for sure; but I suspect a bad cell. Whether that was a manufacturing defect in the cell itself, or a bad solder joint ... only dissecting the battery would reveal that ... and that would void the battery pack warranty ...

are chain / casette etc a normal wear item on e-bike? what mileage on yours? on my regular bikes they last for the life of the bike (maybe its normal though for e-bikes to wear through them?)

A drivetrain on an e-hub system should last a long time since it isn't integrated into the motor propulsion the way it is on a mid-drive. That's one of the main benefits of hub systems IMO. Mid-drive systems excel in hilly terrain and off road (also IMO).
