just brought to mind the scene where the wind changed direction in the movie Castaway, indicating it was time to launch the raft

Weatherspark can give you climate summary including average wind directions, e.g. here for San Marcos: https://weatherspark.com/y/7997/Aver...tes-Year-Round

With that said,
-- winter tends to have roughly similar proportions of winds from S and from N and summers tend to have more winds from the S and not much at all from the N.
-- I haven't found winds to be as much of an issue as other places, partially because there are more trees and partially because of curves and hills

Generally speaking, central Texas gets most of its windflow from the Gulf, so there's most often a breeze from the southeast. Problem is, there's a "dry line" out in West Texas, and it moves around a bit as various pressure systems interact. We also aren't immune from northerly cold fronts in the fall and winter, but around here mid-February is when spring starts.

The short version: If you plan on winds out of the south, you'll be right most of the time. Hope this helps!
