I felt much the same way as you but, even a year ago, before I bought my Domane, I would have had to admit that my Bontrager pump was good and had served me well for several years. And now that I actually own a Trek and have some other Bontrager bits? Yeah, I was wrong and you are wrong. Many 'house' brands have had a reputation for being cheap, re-branded **** that's bolted on to hit a price-point... and a handful of years ago, it wasn't necessarily undeserved. But now, many of the house brands are actually putting out decent, competitive product. I still have a weird thing where I don't like the idea of mixing components (Roval wheels on anything but a Specialized/SWorks? Ick), and everyone is going to have a few clunker products, but to dismiss them out of hand because of the brand is nonsense.

I'm genuinely curious what the problems are that you have observed.

Cracked rims and Keith Bontrager blogging that it was the owner's fault for not washing winter salt off their wheels.
That was enough for me.
Anyway, I held a wavecell in my hands today. They are heavy. The strap hooks together magnetically. Other than that it look like an OK helmet.
REI seems to be big on Bontranger stuff now.

I thought it was light and that the magnetic strap was innovative. I did not know about the rims. Blaming the victim is a bit disconcerting. Salt? WTF? I don't own much Bontrager stuff.

Does anyone really believe that Keith Bontrager is actually designing anything these days? I doubt he has anything to do with the design of the products that Trek puts his name on.

Maybe, but many people find value in using brand to project their own identity to the world.
Undoubtedly, that is why some will soon turn to Walmart for bikes that cost as much as $6K. My guess is that even includes free assembly

Bontrager seatpost.
Someone in another forum noticed blue anodized under the black, gave it an acetone bath and sure enough, Bontrager had painted black over blue anodozed.
It wouldn't surprise me if it was counterfeit. Maybe it is someone else' seatpost rebranded?

Can you show me, on this doll, where Keith Bontrager touched you?

Non omnino gravis
I just don't own anything Bontrager because I don't see value in the brand. I think they sell at too high of a pricepoint for what they're selling. There are plenty of boutique and specialty makers that are selling better stuff for the same money, and loads of off-brand and economy stuff of equal quality but less money. The Bontrager name holds no cachet for me. Not saying the stuff is bad, just saying it's never even in my consideration when I'm shopping for bike bits.

Well, I have a couple rides in now with the new helmet. It's really comfortable, even on today's 4 hour ride. I did feel the extra bulk compared to my Rudy Project helmet, but it was not at all bothersome. It doesn't quite breathe the same as my Rudy, but it wasn't bad, even climbing when it was 85 degrees out on Thurs. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it, and since my other helmet(s) aren't even MIPS, the extra safety factor adds a little piece of mind.
