Two Hours, 30 Miles, so Much Variety...

Last Sunday I decided to ride up the hill to the University of Colorado Campus here in Colorado Springs. I haven't done it in almost 20 years. My grand-daughter is there now, but didn't even exist last time I did it. And last time I took a different route up. In the video you can see I discovered an underpass I had rode by scores of times over the years and never noticed until Sunday.

After UCCS I rode to the Garden of the Gods. I had posted videos of that a few times before.

Then it was up to Manitou Springs, where I stopped for a "gourd" of Yerba Mate, which I have been brewing in my coffee maker at home. But this place serves it traditional style in a small gourd-like cup and a screened straw or "bombilla". All the caffeine of coffee with little to no acid.

Here are the highlights of my ride...

Nice scenery and day. Been 25 or 40 years since I drove my car thru there. You honked that car good. LOL
You could have looked at that 30s car better for me. ha Having the Gopro on the bike would make a less jumpy video.
So I didn't see any bird chopper windmills in CS. Did city council come to their senses and cancel that brutal plan for 200 of them?? Tony Heller had a video about that a couple years ago.

They legalized acid in Colorado too? I did not know that.

You would not recognize Colorado Springs now...(sub)Urban SPRAWL! Mounting the camera on the bike would make for a smoother video, but I mostly commute and my main goal is to be able to document driver interactions, so being able to turn my head to aim the camera works better for me. There are no big wind generators in town, but 30 miles east by Calhan there's a "wind farm".

My two previous homes in Chicago and Iowa have their beauty and charm, but Colorado has so much more variety.

When I arrived here 27 years ago, faded bike lanes and signs from the 1970's bike boom were everywhere. And then about five years ago the new bike infrastructure began and has been gaining momentum. Some of it is overkill or not even necessary; but most of it has been implemented with intelligence and forethought. And while it doesn't necessarily help my commute, it does help make my extended weekend rides safer and more relaxed.

It was an odd sensation at first, and yet some what familiar, reaching back to life's earliest memories of nourishment (if your catch my drift).

Please don't give them any more ideas. Although I when I read the news in the morning I wonder if someone didn't slip some acid in my Yerba.
