Old roadie, what is it???
Hey all!
Thank you for taking the time to look at my post. I am half asking what something is worth, but I am much more asking what this frame is, so if I have miscategorized this post, please let me know!
I obtained this old lugged racing frame that was sans wheels, seat/seat post, and stem/handlebars-- all it had was all Campagnolo cranks, breaks, and derailluers, all of the Nuovo Record model. The frame itself is scant of decals, and looks like it may've been repainted at one point or another. The only distinguishing mark I could find is on the bottom of the bb, the serial number is "SRC 1197." Other than that, my research has shown it's a mid 70s frame, closer to the 80s.
If the frame is not worth much, I would likely part it out as I am not much for the campy look. Would it be sacrelige to put quasi modern components on it? This bicycle frame just fits me really well and I like having a weekend rider (I have other bikes I use for commuting/touring), though I have enough respect for the cycling world to make an effort at keeping a bicycle complete if it turns out this is a classic combo.

Are there any markings on the dropouts?
Italian threading on the bottom bracket?
Any dates on the ID tags on the bike?
I'm thinking of maybe a small Italian builder. If "1197" is a sequential serial number, then that would be quite a few bikes for a small company, but only a drop in the bucket for a large company.

The workmanship, particularly the lug thinning, is more reminiscent of an American custom builder. Then 3rd and 5th photos look like there's a bend in the down tube. The last photo makes the fork appear bent.

The none standard geometry along with the size and as mentioned lug work would have me leaning towards a late 70's custom build likely from the US also.

RD and crank dates?
I don't think there were lots of builders doing that high point seat lug treatment when still using un-recessed caliper sockets. Un-relieved lugs and BB (which make me think small shop, all about the racing). Possible clues, I have no answers.

There's no way that front wheel should be that close to the downtube. Plus, 5th picture down looks like a bent downtube. I'm sorry but, I think that frame is bent.

Good call. Explains the lugwork. The ones I remember bitd had cutout headtube lug.
Worth the effort of a rescue, it's steel, no creases, right?

If it fit's I would say keep it the large size and steep headtube mean this bike would fit very few riders and the condition just isn't good enough to bother with an online sale. Since it is a custom frame I would say just build it up however you like and ride it.

Thanks everyone! I was able to contact Strawberry and indeed he confirm it was one of theirs. still pondering on what to do with it but the bath is much clearer now. Y'all are amazing!
