Ticked one off the list;)

A few days ago I did my regular CL and E-bay searches for "Guerciotti". I raced Gerchs during the time when Ten Speed Drive Imports was huge. As it is with many racers, my bikes were nothing but tools to me, they held no value beyond what the two of us could do. Nearly all of my bikes had been crashed at one time or another and frankly I don't know where many of them went. Fast forward to the "autumn" of my life and now those bikes, especially Guerciottis, hold a special place in my heart.

Imagine my surprise when I found a 1984 Guerciotti GL 7300 in as mint condition as they come on Ebay. The seller was a fellow named Jay who has a bike shop in KC, MO called "World Class Bikes". He had a "Buy It Now" price but was open to offers. I typed a long list of questions regarding exact measurements, condition and what his experience was in packing/shipping bikes that essentially can't be replaced. He responded quickly and answered every question. We negotiated a price that I quickly jumped on and in two days I had this:

Jay can pack a bike, not one scratch, ding or anything. The way he had it packed it could have taken a lot of abuse before any damage occurred.

I said all that to say this; I'm happy to have a bike I've been looking for quite some time (still looking for a GLX 84 in 54cm). It's downright refreshing to deal with someone like Jay who's definition of excellent is the same as the one in the dictionary. I made sure he put me on his notification list Currently his website is down going through some major changes, that said, I'd buy another bike from this guy based on description alone.

Really nice looking Guerc, glad you had the good experience with that seller. Have to keep that one in mind when looking for something interesting to build or ride.

One of the groups I ride with regularly rides right past World Class Bikes. A couple of us in the group are "old bike nerds," and we are always curious about the shop - none of us have have visited the place. Now I'm going to have to head over to check the place out!

That looks fantastic. Enjoy the re-do of the glory days - but no crashes!
