Tire clearance: would you ride?
Chain stays from below
front fork
Probably a couple of MMs on each side, top of tire has more room.
28mm tires on 24mm wide rims.
Thinking 23mm wide rim is goin to be better (got some HsonPlus coming in)?
Or go back to 26mm tires?
What say ye?

You guys had me feeling all brave then I remembered that once a year I gotta ride over Monkey Pod seeds:
So sticky you can hear them seeds and parts bounce off yer tubing. Need to clean inside of fork.
Also no avoiding as the Monkey Pod trees are like everywhere.
Back to 26mm tires me thinks.
BTW, 23mm rims weren't any better.
Thanks!
just found out that the seeds are edible! free food!

No, would not ride. Look for a minimum of 3-4mm clearance between tire and frame -- more if your wheels are flexy and/or you are heavier/frequently crank it up to 400W.

Put some duct tape and inside the chain stays. If the tire rubs then no. I got new wheels for my Madone 5.0. Went from 14mm inside width rims to 19mm. Now a 25mm tires is almost 28 mm and a 23 is almost 27 mm. I have to run a 23 in the rear and can run 25mm in front. So much for jumping on the wide tire band wagon unless I get a new frame.

I hear ya.
My bicycle is 9 years old or so, not designed with these newfangled rims in mind.
Going down to 23mm wide rims mades things better some at least in front.
Decided I wanted some aero so thinking about some Aforce wheels at 24mm wide and I'll be back where I was. 26mm tires.
Shouldn't be too bad.
See if I can fit the 28mm tires on my steel frame.
If not, anyone wanna buy some 28mm Turbo Cottons?

I'd have to agree with this. I just went through this trying to get some Schwalbe Pro ones in 28mm to work on my racing geometry frame. Probably 2mm or so clearance so the tire turned through there. The downside was anytime I picked up a little tar covered rock, it would tend to jam in there and I'd have to stop and knock it out. So it's going to depend on where you ride and your tolerance for getting stuff jammed up in there. The 28's I was using were on the pudgy side and it was on a wide, but not exceptionally wide rim (23mm, I think internally).

Yeah the more I look at it the more it's a no go.
Carbon frame so anything gets stuck...I can imagine the sound it's going to make. The monkeypod seeds can be crazy and they've gotten stuck in the fork before.
LBS guys said no go too. Customer there laughed and said he'd go.
I suppose it's easy to say when it's not your frame!
Thankfully I've been waiting for a free hub so I haven't been tempted to ride it.

If was just side to side I'd go.
