Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thanks!

Damn right! I have vacation time to burn, so why not use some of it to put Christmas trees and Christmas dogs out in the yard!

I'm dealing with my first stuck seat post. Al post in a steel frame. Do crabon posts get stuck? Prolly a lot easier to destroy during non-traditional removal

You guys see the controversy about that new ad for Peloton?

https://www.vox.com/culture/2019/12/...l-horror-movie

Pretty funny, if you ask me. I still can't fathom spending over $2k on one of those when you could get a smart trainer and a really nice road bike for less, and then have the option to ride outside as well.

And that doesn't include the recurring costs, whatever they are. I know two guys who use them because their wives are into it.

No comment on the ad controversy.

I can't comment on the ad, but I don't "get" peloton. But they sure have brand recognition. My patients know I am a cyclist, and they sometimes ask me what I do in the winter when the roads are unsafe. I tell them I have a trainer that is connected to a group ride platform called Zwift. The response, invariably, is "Oh, you mean like Peloton??"

Yeah, saw that and thought it was funny - I was rolling my eyes so hard when I saw that commerical over the weekend.

And yeah, I've always thought that the value prop is really bad for the same reasons.

I am trying the Conti 5000's next year, at least as far as road races go. I sure like the looks of them a lot more than the 4000s'

My wife and I have determined that even if I wanted a Peloton there is no proper place to put it in our house. Pelotons it would appear only go in front of large windows, we only have one bay window and there would be a conflict with family TV viewing.

For more amusement, there is a twitter video nsfw from a women that receives a gift of a Peloton from her husbanc....spoiler she gives a gift of papers to the giver at the end

We have a family friend for whom it actually does make sense. Hard driven personality, lawyer head of office, long hours and works in Chicago. For that it would seems makes sense as disposable income, hard work-out, non weather dependent and out of heavy urban/suburban traffic.

I think it's helpful to not think of it as a bicycle. It's home gym equipment that allows you to have personal spin classes. Even with the monthly on-demand class fee, the thing pays for itself in about a year (based on a $15/session spin class cost), assuming it's part of your regular workout routine.

So the lesson here is that everything can make sense if you have oodles of disposable income?
