Hello from PA and Florida
I retired at the end of January 2016 at age 59. My employer made me an offer too good to refuse. I hadn't ridden much at all since then. I spent most of my time playing golf and doing yardwork, along with other projects around the house that I never had time to get to. I worked part-time at a golf course too. That changed when I took my mountain bike to Florida this winter and started riding every day that I didn't play golf. I lost 40 pounds in 3 and a half months while there. I was originally planning to leave the bike in Florida, but I changed my mind and brought it home with me.
I bought an entry level Trek mountain bike in 1999. I was hooked on cycling again for the first time since I was in my twenties. I sold it the following year and bought a 2000 Trek 8000. I then added a 2002 Klein Quantum road bike a year later. Last year, my wife and I bought a condo in Florida and I took the Trek 8000 with me to ride this year. I wore out the tires that were on it so I brought it home to PA with me to get new rubber and have it checked over by my friend who owns a bike shop. The 8000 has been great to me for 20 years and has many miles on it. I replaced the front shock about 4 years ago. I've gone through several sets of tires, 4 or 5 chains, and at least 3 saddles. I've also replaced the rear shifter, rear wheel, cassette, bottom bracket spindle, and the chainrings over the years. It rides like new now though. The original plan was to take it back to Florida next winter and leave it there. That's not happening now.
I decided to get my road bike checked over also. It needed new tires and a new rear wheel. Other than tires, that was the first time I ever had to put any money into the Klein, except when I upgraded to a Fi'zik saddle probably 15 years ago. The gorgeous Klein aluminum frame, painted in the Plum Crazy color, is a work of art.
A good friend of mine recently told me he wanted to sell his 2011 Trek 7.5 FX hybrid the other day. He wanted to add a new mountain bike to his stable along with his other hardtail and his fat tire bike, I thought that a hybrid would be perfect for where I ride in Florida. He let me take the hybrid home with me. We've since arrived at a price, although I haven't actually paid for it yet. It's black and looks nearly new with the original tires. He didn't ride it very much. He blamed it on his bad shoulder and the fact that there is no front shock. It will be a welcome addition to my stable.
