It appears to me to be a lower end road bike that someone replaced the drop bars with a set of riser bars. While I see braze ons for fenders, it has no braze-ons for water bottle cages, racks, etc that a touring bike would have. Nor does it have the gearing of a touring bike.

I'm 200lb, and I feel like I can comfortably tour with more than 35lb which I've already tried hauling.
I've already bought the bike concerted to flat bar, but I changed the bars again to these riser bars which are perfect for me in terms of ergonomics and width. I can make due with drop bars if I wished, but only if I were to use a stem similar to the one I am presently running.

Anything is a touring bike if you use it for touring. Sitting so straight your going to have an aching butt pretty quickly though. The simplest fix is a straight bar with bar ends so you have another hand position. If your going to carry stuff you'll need racks and if you carry any amount of stuff you'll need lower gears unless you don't mind walking. All those fixes could be done on a budget. Other than that, keep the rubber side down.

Landed this time-capsule 1985 Miyata 610 tonight. It even has the original Miyata radial tires! Just needs a tune & clean and I can get it out on the road. I have to laugh at the "Miyata Cotterless" crank dust caps though.

That's a nice 610. I think the '85 is the best year for them, too, IMO. Sealed cartridge bearing hubs & stainless spokes.

I had spenco brake lever covers on my first Univega touring bike. Here's a earlier 610, '62 I think. Not as nice as the '65 pictured earlier.
