Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

every speed feels like a hammer fest to me lately with the GD wind.

Allz I know is my R3 came with a screw-together shell instead of OEM and figured it was for a reason.

Yeah, the Canyon's BB has clicked its whole life. Like my tinnitus, I only notice it when I think about it. But at some point I might go for a screw-together type.

It was windy in MN and it's been windy in VA, today was probably the worst. I did have a pretty sweet section where I was cruising at 28-30 mph, which was slightly soured when I later found out that no one had the decency to make that stretch a segment.

Oh, also on the ride today -

I was motoring along on a stretch of road with a 25mph limit and saw a radar sign ahead. I sped up until, at 28mph, the sign finally started flashing "SLOW DOWN!" at me. I gave it a little fist pump and a 'woo hoo!' and then saw an officer sitting in his car to my left, across the street. He just laughed and gave me a wave.

Where I ride, these are invariably placed on uphill segments, so I often see "11", till a car appears in the distance, and the reader ignores me as unimportant.

I had a nasty seatpost creak on my MTB a while ago when riding with some other people. I said something along the lines of "sorry my bike is so noisy" and they hadn't noticed at all

Probably because they were paying attention to their own creaky bike

It’s a beautiful spring evening. I went for a walk with mrs datlas, which was quite relaxing.

There is a training crit on Thursday evenings at a corporate park about 1/2 mile from our house. During our walk I saw a few cyclists obviously heading towards the race. In full tifosi style, I got off the road and clapped loudly as the riders went by, and yelled “Allez! Allez! ALLEZ!!”

Some of them smiled but most ignored me. At least I tried.

I was in the car heading downhill and a large peloton was coming up toward me. I moved to the right and hung out the window and yelled "Allez! Allez!". They looked at me like I was from outer space.

Hoping for 40 tomorrow. Yard work beat me up pretty bad, so we shall see. Still have to shovel more mulch and move a pile of thorns from the back of the yard to the front of the yard.

still havnt gotten a chance to look at the ritchey or clean anything.

I would have no clue why you would be yelling a specialized bike at me.

What if I yelled "Tarmac"?

Actually these guys may have been non-English speakers.

They might think you wre yelling "Get a car, Mack!"

My general assumption is that if someone's yelling at me from a moving vehicle while I'm on a bike, they're yelling variations on "Get off the road!"

I really didn't want to go ride tonight but tomorrow is forecast to be silly windy again so I sucked it up even though I knew I was probably going to get a little wet from the showers that have been coming through off and on all day.

Of course - the heaviest rain was right at the very end and more or less quit as I was wiping the bike off in the garage

Still glad I went though, warm spring rains can feel kind of nice

Jacked the ritchey up and got under the ole under carriage. Doesn’t make the noise when I pedal with my hands, nothing the crank arm can hit.

Only thing that made a similar sound was when I turned the bars. The front derailer cable came out of the cable stay on the frame at a weird angle. When I turned the bars it would make a tapping noise from the cable getting caught in the shifter. I zip tied it to hold it up and that fixed it. Prolly due to putting smaller bars on it and not putting new cables so the length was a little long.

I gave the chain a solid cleaning and re lubed it, will ride it tomorrow to see if that fixes the problem.

Why were you yelling a British soccer chant?
