Now I've seen everything!

There is a growing trend to allow people to compete in prestigious sporting events if they raise money for charity. I know plenty of people run the Boston marathon for various charities. There is usually a pretty high fundraising minimum. But plenty of people are capable of running a marathon and while the Boston course is challenging, I think if you are a marathon runner, you can do it. They put the charity riders at the back and they don't interfere with the real race at all. The elite runners are halfway to the finish line while the charity runners are still tying their shoes.

I saw something come across my Facebook feed today for a charity ride for Multiple Sclerosis. The event? The Tour de France! Now, I am not physically capable of riding the Tour and I think they will choose the participants very carefully. But this is proof that you can now buy your way into almost any event.

Kinda reminds me of the Trump races about 20 years ago. Didn't last long as they didn't produce the $ DT hoped to raise. Smiles, MH

They won’t be riding in the Tour.

There are dozens of groups that ride the route a day prior to the event as the roads are closed.

Taking a look around, I found this: Ride le Loop If follows the Tour de France route, but take place a week before the pros.

Then there is this guy: Tour de France on a chopper

if the money are raised for charity stuff, I guess, it doesn't matter who's running it
