Maybe it is my computer resolution, or my aging eyes but I could not tell the race, religion, or even the sex of the attackers in the video.

I'm not sure where that cops head is, but the politicians are not the ones we're paying to keep us safe on the streets. I'm sure he has a host of excuses for why the politicians are at fault, but the primary responsibility, and the primary failure, in this case lies with the cops. It's their job to police such miscreant behavior.

Perhaps their priorities are misplaced. The can do nothing about this sort of crime because "the politicians", but selling loose cigarettes is a capital offense.

(And I don't think he's correct about the city having deteriorated. It was much worse in the 70s.)

Turtle:

Given the composition of the NYPD it is very possible that the officer who made that statement is not a non-Hispanic White officer. If they were a patrol officer it is likely.

NYPD Police Officers (cops on the street) by race:

non-Hispanic White 43.6%
Black 15.7%
Hispanic 31.1%
Asian 9.6%
Other 0.1%

As an anecdote, the district where I was a firefighter medic had a lot of Hispanic families but only three Black families out of about 500 families total. One of the Black residents of our district was a retired cop. I can just imagine what Jim would have said about such an attack, but if I posted it the moderator would remove this post. Not everything is about race.
