^^ Glad to hear you're ok. Passing out is not a good sign. Sounds like a case of heat exhaustion (rapid pulse etc). Good thing you were able to stop and take care of yourself the best you could. Trust me, I've been very close to that point too. It can be an insidious thing that you don't recognize until it's too late.

hopefully, it's just an isolated case of heat exhaustion. the losing consciousness part is scary. would seem to be a good time for a checkup

with your physician based on your experience today and run a few tests, get some bloodwork done, etc.

^^^^^ Thanks for the collective advice. Feel good today after rehydration and refueling. I think I will invest in a proper cycling computer with biometrics built in and a HRM. I need to reconsider that I'm 200lbs+, 57 y/0, ride a lot of hills and I'm sweating and using more calories than I think. I also did a 12 mile hike the day before and did not properly rehydrate and fuel up trying to lose weight. Not a good mix.

Sunny solo Sunday...and New Socks Day! - I wasn't able to get on my bike until the afternoon, and the heat was definitely on. I felt really good for the first 2/3 of my ride, rolling across Huntington Dr, Duarte Rd., and along the bike path around Santa Fe Dam. As I headed back west, toward home, I could feel my energy fade. I relaxed my pace, and skipped a few short hills I like to attack. A stop for a cold Coke in Sierra Madre was very welcome. I was also reminded that I don't love riding solo. I have become a fan of Swiftwick socks, and recent order was delivered this weekend, including these stars-and-stripes ones. They are little thicker than the Aspire-series I prefer, but they are pretty nice. I love new socks, and I cannot lie...

^^ That looks like a route I used to take with Dennis from Performance Bike on Sat morning.....until they bit the dust. I also used to ride out Longden and get on the Rio Hondo bike trail down to Whittier Narrows.

Yep. I've done that loop lots of times, too. I was considering that route yesterday, but I needed to get home a little sooner. Based on how I felt at the end of my ride, those extra 10 miles would have been a real struggle. The route I rode was mostly (added loop around Santa Fe Dam) a duplicate of the Sunday AM coffee ride that starts in So Pas...which is an abbreviated and slow version of the Montrose Ride.

30 miles from the mouth of the SART and then through Newport and a little bit of Irvine. I felt really weak today. I felt as if I hadn't eaten in a day. Had a banana half way through the ride and still nothing. I'm writing it off as the heat.

Went back to the scene of my collapse last week and managed 8 repeats on Turnbull Cyn for 49 miles and 6.4K of climb. Only topped out at 80F so 10 degrees cooler. Kept close tabs on hydration, electrolytes and nutrition since yesterday so much better outcome than heat exhaustion. Lots of riders today both MTB and Road. A couple of larger groups too including a recumbent climber leading the way in one group.

Hwy 39 - East Fork - GMR. Felt way better than when I did it in January. Weather was pretty much perfect, too.



Best part of the ride - descending GMR. This is easily one of my favorite descents ever. Here's the last section...

30 miles of Easter morn gravel along the river in Eastvale CA. I even stopped to let the spring lambs know they'd be spared from the grill this year!

17-spot including the usual local metro san diego confines. looking for a little more tomorrow.

64-spot in the semi-local environs on the '85 steel pinarello. se to city heights, lemon grove and spring valley, then south to sunnyside, bonita and chula vista, then west to the flatitudes of imperial beach
and coronado. ferry from coronado to dtown san diego, a roll thru balboa park and toodling around the neighborhood for cheap, but faster than usual, miles as i was getting cold.
a bit windy but expected and a nice april day. mixed in a mexigrub lunch and a beer stop and still had plenty of energy so the status quo is just about restored.

61 miles and 3K of climb over Turnbull Cyn and up the SGRT to the Azusa Cyn entrance O/B. Trail was clean and no homeless blocking the trail w/ stuff. Nice to get out midweek for a change and get some miles in.

Tuesday: Short ride with a good friend. A couple of laps around the Rose Bowl loop, and then a couple of climbs in the adjacent hills. 23 miles, sub-1.5 hours. Fun little ride.

Anyone ride Santa Ana River Trail from Green River Rd. lately?

It's been quite a while since I've gone there and noticed the construction around the trail head. I'm curious where people are parking and if the trailhead is open.

I have not been lately (2021) but from Green River at SART there is the area around Jack in the Box, the GR village and the GR golf club where there is SART parking.

Rut, rut, rut... 53 miles and 6150 feet of climb in the Turnbull Cyn, Powder Cyn, Cypress-Skyline climb and Murphy Ranch areas. Need to hit the San Gabs this week for a welcomed change and longer climbs.
