Addiction 2021.1

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Too wet out to ride this AM and I’m over the whole Zwift thing for now. Decided I’m going to go after work. Winds are going to be westerly in the 20s so it should be a really good time!

I just suspended my Zwift account (which I do every spring), but Sunday is supposed to be a washout and my subscription does not expire until April 3rd...so I will likely do at least one more round of fake miles.

I was thinking of something more along the lines of George Carlin's "Seven Words You Can't Say on TV." bit.

NSFW language, but in 2021 seems pretty tame when we are hearing Cardi B's WAP on the radio.

Uh oh - ENVE is now offering custom road bikes. Since they start at $7k, though, the most enjoyment I'll get out of the deal is playing with their bike builder page - https://www.enve.com/bike-builder/paint

If I covet one does that mean I have ENVE Envy?

My first shot came to $11,300 for a basic bike. Splurged on the color matched cages for $400.

Yeah - the $7k start is for the frameset only.

Ha. I'm not too surprised.
7K for an open mold china carbon frameset branded Enve seems excessive...

I don't want this to get personal and too P and R so I'll respectfully say this and not revisit this issue.

So its ok to make fun of rednecks? I guess so since they probably shop at Walmart. They must be the last people who aren't in a protected class. I don't think its funny.

Fair enough and wasn't intended to be personal. FWIW some of my best friends from where I grew up are what many would classify as rednecks. Again - no offense intended.

Oh boy.

Yeah, I know - it can be rough all over, but let's not go there. Let's just acknowledge that the holes that some are born in to are much tougher to climb out of than others.

I wouldn't want to exclude the metal-lovin' bike folks from the coveting, so here's an interesting Ti bike that I came across this morning by Bossi, some Australian outfit. It uses a combination of cast bits and hydroformed bobs, so that it's got a very modern, aero look. I can dig it.

I've been getting my fair share of miserable weather on my riding days, and now I see that it's supposed to be in the 60s and sunny in MN the weekend that we leave for VA. Man, the weather had better be cooperative in VA, or else.

For what it's worth I feel responsible for demeaning an obviously popular beer in the first place. I could have named a ****load of other beers I don't care for but I chose the pilsner industry leaders. Such comparisons can be made about all manner of consumer products without intention of demeaning those who favor one side over another, we just happened to be talking about beers.

Hell, when I was in college I think I personally kept the Annheiser Bush breweries afloat, that's how much my roomies and I drank. Nowadays we've moved on, no offense to anyone who still love it.
