Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ha. So were you disappointed or pleasantly surprised? I'll take a tapas bar over a topless bar any day.

I wonder if Portland has a topless bar with tapas yet. BITD we would go to one with $4.95 ribeye with baked potato and salad bar.

The last few years, we've had Verge. I get size L club cut these days. More room to breathe.

My x large castelli race level thermal jersey finally fits me the way it’s suppose to.

Wife did her first group ride today. They were all super nice, but she was red lined by the fourth mile. She hung on til about mile 7 but then we got dropped. One of the group stayed with us until about mile 12 when we decided to turn around. Wind was killer today, and yesterday she over did it with the yard work and her legs were already sore, but I think my wife got herself super worked up about riding with a group. She was nervous.

Over all we had a good time, and if you look at her on Intervals she was working hard. Hoping we can try again soon. She was beating herself up hard, felt like a failure. I think she did awesome.

Some people get dropped in group rides, get pissed, and never come back. Some people get dropped in group rides, get pissed, and come back until they don't get dropped anymore. There's no wrong reaction. No need to feel like a failure, because this is only the first step, should she choose to embrace that group ride thing.

I bought some jerseys last year, which were pretty darn tight when I got them. Now? They flap a bit. The Castelli kit I bought in 2019 because it was on sale at the Performance Going Out Of Business sale didn't fit till late in the summer - which runs through October for us in NorCal - and at that, a little tight. I'm curious to see how it fits now. It's XXL.

I got a pair of The Black Bibs $60 bibs, which fit fine, but they have the kind of pad that's extra thick over the sit bones, AND they're a bit slick, so I would slide forward on the saddle and have to push back. I guess these days saddles aren't as slick as they were 20 years ago when these Avocet saddles were made.

I feel like my crap was almost psychosomatic. Two days ago, I worried I was hosed, because walking and climbing stairs had me thinking I was done. Yesterday my TT bike ride on the trainer had me pausing a couple times to catch my Z1 breath. Today I rode (road) out, did as many threshold 6 minute intervals as I could (4), and then rode (road) home. 2 days ago, I wouldn't have been able to ride out. A two week rest week has hurt me, but I'll be OK, it seems.

My club mate who moved back to your neighborhood a few years ago keeps wanting to break the 20 minute barrier. He has come close but no success yet. He is a decent climber IMO.
