Sorry about repeating myself, I miss spelled a word and tried to correct it and it came up twice. I was just curious, I ride all kinds of terrain but it always turns out about the same speed I didn't mean to put everybody on the spot I'll try not to post too many stupid questions

Sometimes 8 mph, but that's on a 22 psi full squish mtb.

It is fine. If that is your natural speed, that is what it is. My wife and I go through this every so often, but usually by the middle of the riding season, we settle into about the same. 12 mph over 2 or 3 hours, sometimes up to 13 or 13.5 if really pushing it. But more often than not, seldom is it over 14 mph. If you said, 8 or even 10 mph, I would say that is pretty leisurely, even slow. 12 to 14 mph is fine. If you were working towards some big goal like a double century, I would say you might need to increase your average speed. But for just a 1 hour ride, you are doing fine.

Clearly you need a gravel bike.

Most of my normal rides include lots of short ups and downs, not terribly steep but enough to feel like I'm working. 2 or 3 miles up is about the limit for me if it's steep. I did a gradual 15 miles and coming back down was faster than I normally like, had to brake too much these road bikes will fly if left on their own. I've got a couple places I go because they have nice rolling hills and no traffic, makes a good ride out of it not to painful.

I pass more people than pass me on rides of any length. However I ride closer to my limit of sustained power output many times. So if they also decided to do the same, they might smoke me and leave me way behind.

The thing about riding here in the SF Bay Area is that there are SO MANY CYCLISTS of all varieties that on any given ride, you can always find someone older than you, or younger; fatter than you, or thinner; slower than you, or faster.

I make it my goal to be as many other riders' "older, fatter, faster" cyclist as possible.

I do most of my riding indoors, so I go 0mph lol

but I've done 100miles this past year averaging 19mph, hoping to do it at 20mph this year, there are some variables besides my own effort to consider there

last week I did a 13 mile loop at about 22mph, but lest I feel too good about myself, the segment leader averaged 25mph

on my hybrid with suspension fork, the magic MPH # was often 15.5mph iirc.

I'd have to look now being mostly on a road bicycle, but I think it's around 17 or 18 mph. I attribute the increase to being a result from the exposure from the hybrid riding as well as the desire to go to a road setup. YMPHMV

As far as 279 Watts normalized power will take me as that's the most I've ever done for 1 hour (59:58 to be exact).

Normally 20km/h for longer rides like 100km or so. Just a bit lower when the daily climbing is ~2000 meters

Laugh all you want - that's on a fatbike.

Seems like it gets a lot more difficult to increase the mph if faced with a head wind or steep climbs, and I try to avoid downhill speeds over 28 mph for safety and it's hard on brakes. Sometimes I'll run into riders out on 80 or 90 mile rides and they're riding faster than me so I know I'm not that fast how bout you guys what's your average on a normal outing?
it is what it is.

there's always someone faster.

you're doing fine.

I got after it the other day just to see and I did my 1 hr ride and averaged 13.8 mph I might be able to improve on that if I get serious but not by much, A few yrs ago I reached 15mph on that same ride but I was feeling pretty frisky that day. You guys getting up to 19 and 20+ are pretty impressive in my book! Especially doing 100 miles! It would take me a couple day rides to go 100.

I find that watching my speeds as I ride and seeing my average at the end just makes my ride a little more interesting, not that it will buy me anything
