It's not ready for the "Show your Trek" thread yet, so...





Got the frame in a trade today; an 80 or 81 Trek 610. I've got another Trek on the way too. I promise, I was down to only two bikes and now I've got an embarrassment of riches on my hands here.

I'm mostly throwing some unused parts on here to feel the ride while I wait for my other Trek, but this one might get the torch someday.

Cables and housing tomorrow. What's a good color bar tape for these chestnut Treks?

I just finished rebuilding this late 70s Peugeot UO 10. The bike has been overhauled and the consumables replaced. The bike weighs 26.5 lbs which isn't bad for a hi tensile steel bike with a leather saddle. Yeah I know the cables are too high but I'm not fixing this,

Found some metallic pinstripe for these old fenders. It's actually a tad wider than the original stuff, but it's barely noticeable. Not prefect, but better than it was!

Currently working on a 1982(ish) Lotus Supreme I found on CL. Tange steel frame brazed by Tsunoda, full Dura Ace EX kit. Here's what it looked like when I got it...


There is a back wheel, Dura Ace EX 6 speed freehub with MA40 rim.

Currently reduced to a frame, fork, and parts in a bucket, as well as an unconscionably large number of bits still in transit.

I've been on a Peugeot U series kick lately. I've always liked these bikes. My first tour was on a Peugeot UO 10 I bought in London and used to tour the UK and the continent. They have a long wheel base (42 inches usu.) and slack angle (around 72 I believe) and lots of tire clearance. They have superb neutral handling. The headset and bottom brackets tend to be good quality. The delrin derailleurs have their ups and downs. The rear tends to survive; the front derailleur and shifters not so much. The brakes tend to be good quality. The cranks varied. The later series with the cotterless cranks are preferable to the UO 8 and UE 8s with a steel cottered crank.

I recently rebuilt a late 70s UO 10 that I plan on selling. I also have a mid 70s (perhaps a '74) UE 8 that I plan on turning into a townie with a cotterless crank, alloy wheels, and better quality derailleurs. The bike comes stock with good quality fenders and a rack. Plus it is set up for a bottle generator and a kickstand so it has all the makings of a lock up/townie bike.

This is the bike as it came to me in the "wild." The bar is obviously the wrong dimensions for the stem so that needs to be fixed as well. I'll change the saddle as well since I prefer a plastic saddle for a bike I lock up outside. The condition is a 9 out of 10 so that's a good start. I picked up a set of Schwalbe 27 x 1 and 1/4 marathon tires and I have a set of wheels with normandy hi flange hubs and alloy Rigida 16-22 rims. Those are good rims. I'll plan on keeping the flat bars and running thumb shifters. I'll likely run a nervar star crank on this. The idea is to make this a parts bin build. I may invest in a decent bottle generator if I can find one though.

I've been playing around with the ultrasonic cleaner and oxalic acid. Turns out some dishwasher soap is great for most things but add a teaspoon of powdered oxalic acid and it will strip any rusty bits off of bolts and loosen up things in just a couple of minutes. Just remember to neutralize with baking soda afterwards.

Today I decided to test fit some parts on the Koga-Miyata Traveller with what I still had in my parts bin. The yellow shifter cable looks hideous but should prove things work at least.

The Trek 1100 is essentially done-ish...gotta research the tires that are on it...gotta find a pair of matching, go fast tires...
Next on the lift is my...sigh...Miyata 1000LT!...pretty much just hafta wipe everything down and Phil’s Tenacious the brakes and shifting parts...my bicycles get the intensive rebuild every couple’a years and rotated with the 10-20 other bicycles throughout the riding season...


Can’t wait to do the Chatham Loop on this...sigh...amazing bicycle!

...I’ll stay close to home for awhile with this...Michelin Tracers... I guess some of these Tracers had Kevlar...not a whole lot'a info on line and nothing on the tire...so probably no Kevlar for me...

Well. Look what I found! Gotta be my last pair! 700x32C’s...just what I need... Somewhere on line is a film of these tires being hand made! Amazing!
If anyone has better luck than me finding it...

Will do, should get some miles on them this week. I have Nitto Noodles and think those are great, but tried this as something different. I had these for probably 6 months and didn't know if I'd use them, but I was measuring out a bunch of dimensions recently on this bike and found that I was 2 inches longer on my normal reach and then they became the only option I had to alleviate it.

Also, it looks like my bike is flipping the bird there with the shifter.

That looks like a fun drop bar conversion. What volume tire are you running? I wouldn't mind finding a lugged trek hybrid like this.

700c x 42, It can probably take a 45 with a fender but not more than that. These have geometry similar to the 520 of that year, but the bottom bracket is like 2" higher than my touring bike (Jamis Aurora). Rides nicely though.

I picked up this 1971 Witcomb last year. It is full campy NR other than the BB which is a Phil Wood. The original owner had the bike repainted black. I may repaint the bike but first I want to ride it to see what I think of it. The parts by and large have remarkably little wear. I'll tear it down to clean up the frame, use nail polish where there is missing paint, and overhaul the parts so I can ride it.

My brother-in-law recently decided to buy a bicycle and asked me for input on a new, budget bike ($300) he’d found on Amazon. I told him he was better off finding an old bike since it would be better made. He just wants something he can use to cruise the neighborhood and ride the crushed gravel trails.
After a few pointers, he picked up this 1982 Puch Pathfinder. It’s entry level but it’ll serve his needs. I’ll be servicing the bearings, replacing the cables and brake pads, and swapping to a more upright handlebar.

I've been cleaning up this Rossi that I found on FB Marketplace, from a seller in Hamilton. Great bike, but it definitely needs a little TLC. Dirty as heck, and the paint job was looking rough, but it's a nice Columbus frame with beautiful welds underneath the flaking paint.

The kind folks on this site have let me know it's probably a 1985-87 model, based on the Campy 990 components (which aren't great parts, but have shined up nicely). I've stripped off the parts and the paint (mostly) and will prime as soon as the sun comes out.

Not sure what colour to paint it - any suggestions? Was thinking a brighter red with white accents to keep the Italian heritage. The decals were long gone when I got it, so I don't think I'll bother replacing them...
