Ahh, Spring!

Don't you just love when the first tender shoots of a handlebar and seat push up through the snow? Can Spring be far behind?

Yeah, the frozen sleet and ice pellets are finally melting off the roads. Still a bunch of ice falling from trees, think I'll wait a till that's gone before I go ride.

Spring is definitely on its way here in WestCentral Wisconsin but not here yet. After some brutally cold (minus teens or lower) in early February, temps are finally on the rise. Daytime highs in the upper 30s to mid 40s with nighttime lows just below freezing signal (to me) that the worst of Winter has past. We still may get some snow but it won’t last long. My first road ride of the 2020 season was before the end of March and I’d be very happy to start by then this year too! The brutality cold weather has kept me out of the saddle for what I thought might be some fun Winter trail riding. There is still time for that tho. Perhaps the weekend!

Nothing wrong with winter. Soon it will be summer and blazing hot, so don't wish your days away.

I bet that picture of the bike buried in snow is probably every city north of the 40th parallel! I always get this annoyed feeling when I look around the city and see all these bikes, locked to posts and left out to rot. As a fan of C&V bike there's so much wasted out there.

LOL, well we had Spring for one day, yesterday it was 50F+, sunny, warm with just a bit of breeze, today it's cloudy, 30F, windy with snow coming in by late afternoon and into Thursday morning, RATS winters back already!

With the original brakes, seat and stem-mounted shifters, that bike looks like it's frozen in time.

I grew up in the Springs and my mom and sister still live there. Spring in the Rockies is magical. It's my least favorite time of year in the Texas Panhandle. Even though the temps are rising, so are the wind gusts. I rode Tuesday in 75 degree weather and 35 mph wind gusts. I was climbing out of Palo Duro Canyon, got near the top where the wind sweeps over the rim and it literally stopped me in my tracks. It was at a 12% grade section and I had to grab both brakes so I wouldn't go backwards down the hill.

Maybe a stretch of dry next week. Low 50s.
I'm jazzed.
So are the bikes.

This time of transition is the most dangerous to me. All is clear EXCEPT for that patch of ice you hit and things go all over the place, including you and your bike. I almost have memorized the highly likely danger spots, except they try you outwit me and move.

I went out for a quick 30 minute ride after work the other day as the temperature rose above zero and just loved it. Now I have that same itch i did last year when I sat at my home office desk looking out the window, dreaming of the moment I could get on my bike again.

Hopefully we get a few more days like that soon so I don't have to hit the trainer too many times over the week. I have to admit, by the end of March I am really sick of spinning on the trainer and looking at Zwift ha ha

Thirty degrees and no wind (well, not much) on Monday. Took the Rock Combo on one of the gravel loops I can access from the house after a quarter mile on the highway. First go down of the new year, hit a patch of ice while turning at a rural intersection. Fortunately low speed, bike is fine, raspberry on left knee.

Today is 55 and full sun so will take the Tarmac to town and ride with my buddy on the Greenway. I've forgotten how to dress for warm weather.

It looks like highs in the 40s even touching 50s here for the next week anyway. Last night I went out on (relatively) skinny tires for the first time this year. The real danger is the refreezing that happens overnight. But, boy, 45 sure feels warm this time of year. Not so much in September, though!

Thanks for the encouraging thread. My hill ride was 35deg and spitting snow. Next week in the 50’s and I’ll be wearing shorts.
