Hello folks,

I'm helping my uncle to piece together his 1972 Raleigh Professional, which over the course of many years of riding he had denuded of almost all of its original components except the Nuovo Record headset. He is a professional automotive painter and will be doing the frame justice with a full restoration, and I have volunteered to collect all of the parts for him since he's not eBay/forum savvy. I've been hunting for stuff in very good to excellent condition.

There are still four major and/or elusive components that I need to find, so I figured I'd ask here.

1) I'm after a tubular wheel set as close to the original as possible. It must have the correct Campagnolo Record high-flange hubs, but I am willing to use rims besides the specified Weinmann 293s.

2) A Nuovo Record crank set with 175mm arms, and ideally the original 52/44 chain rings.

3) Nuovo Record brake calipers

4) GB engraved "Map of England" handlebars.

If anyone has any of that stuff available for sale and in nice enough condition to pair up with a fresh paint job, do let me know. Thank you and cheers!

Just FYI , I have an all original ‘72 Pro (only tires replaced) and it has AVA rims. Happy to share pics of those or other details if of help.

No worries about photos, and good to know! I thought the catalog spec for Weinmann was a bit odd because I recall seeing different choices as well over time. Really any tubulars that were popular at the time will work. The main thing is getting the correct hubs. Thanks!

I do have them - 39cm c-c and dirty - but they appear unblemished, with clamp/engraving area looking like it would clean up nicely. can take more pics if these seem like a candidate.

I guess I also need a 27.2 Nuovo Record seat post... I thought I had the timing right for one on eBay this evening but I walked back to the computer and it showed it had ended just a moment before, while I reckoned there were a couple minutes left. Oh, well.

If you ship via USPS, wrap it up in bubble wrap and fashion an odd shaped cardboard container around it. Apparently a non-rectangular non-normal shaped box can ship for less than a standard box, found that out myself. Alternatively FedEx Ground but there would be dimensional shipping costs since the box is large but light. Helps if you have a FedEx account. OTOH, you might contact shipbikes.com because they will ship bike parts (or other things) too at their preferred FedEx rates. I don't particularly like UPS so never recommend them.

I just wanted to update this to let folks know that between a couple of helpful members here I was able to secure all of the parts I could not easily find on eBay and the bike is essentially complete and ready to be built up now... Thanks, and cheers!

I thought original equipment was 42/52 chainrings? That combo was everywhere at that time.

Arms were usually 170 mm, not 175 mm.

I could be completely wrong about your bike.

Can we see some pics of the 72? I have a 72 Raleigh pro and I looked forever specifically for that year because it’s the only year they used Hayden bird lugs. If you want to get down to the nitty gritty you want to find the “1037 <C>” stamped pedals. Ofcourse the gb ventroux bars which looks like someone has. There’s a guy on eBay that sells nos campy grey brake housing and cables for a fair price.

I have the bars, I think and the AVA tubular rims for sure. That said, shipping across the border, from Canada to the USA is pricey and painful. Come to think of it, I have the NR high flange hubs and skewers also.

I have the 1972 catalog and it specifies 52/44 for the pro, but not the arm length. I wanted 175 simply because that's what my uncle's used to riding on his modern bikes now. However, the setup I got from Niliraga is actually just as you specified!

Pogliaghi123 Not all '72s had the Hayden lugs, as many well documented examples attest, but it was the only model year they were pulled out and used for. I needed a replacement fork and bought my uncle a frame with Hayden lugs so now he's debating just using that because it's more unique.
