Can I join the club?!

Thought I should drop in and introduce myself.

I'm new to riding, in fact I just ordered my first bike, a Gravity Ave B from BD. I'm looking forward to getting it home and getting on the thing! Luckily I've got a good friend here in town that rides and will be helping me along the way. Hopefully I'll take a lot advice away from here as well.

I'm a big guy and here to stay. Right now I've got 275lbs packed on a 5'10" frame, I'm down from a little over 340 and hope to end somewhere in the 210-220 range. I don't think I'll ever be leaving this sub-forum though, while I was in the Marine Corps and actually hitting the gym HARD everyday my best weight was 207 at 6% BF. I think my goal may be a bit of a challenge but I'll be happy anywhere near that.

Looking forward to learning all I can and getting into shape while avoiding the dreaded ground pounding 3 times a week!

Sure you can join! It's a little damp and smells a bit from time to time, but if you're ok with that then we're happy to have you.

Congratulations on your weight loss! Keep it up and be sure to post us some pictures when your new bike arrives!

Welcome. You can do it. While I've never been a Marine, I'm the same height as you, topped out at over 304, and am now hovering just above 200, with a final goal of about 165. I may not make it all the way there (I have a relatively broad build), but I'm determined to at least get to 180 or 175.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

@zjrog Ha! I don't know that I'd go that far, but I can deal with the rank smell of a bunch of non bathing fools!

Luckily I've had plenty of nutrition and exercise training while I was in the Marine Corps and now exactly what it takes to lose weight and how far I can push myself. Unfortunately after 4 years I resented all the nutrition and exercise trainin and look where I am! I'll get back eventually. I'll post pictures of before and after in the sticky if anyone wants to point and laugh!

Looks like the journey begins tonight, can't wait to get it together and take it for a test.

Never get tired of interservice rivalries... I work for a former Marine and am currently outnumbered by retired Chair Force weenies... Outnumbered, not outclassed!

I found the BD bikes go together very easily - just the main parts to fit together. Take a finished pic and let us know how she rides

It's funny you say that, just today we had a new position coach come in to get his picture taken. He's coming in from the AF Academy and asked me if I could make him a little darker because the other guys were coming in from Florida and he was a little jealous. I just looked at him and said "You picked your fate airman, now everyone with a media guide will know your true color!"

Of course I helped him out but I couldn't help give him a little jab.

Hey now, leave the chairborn rangers alone. Its not their fault... they were born that way. I read somewhere its genetic...

Hey GW, welcome aboard. That is a good looking ride you picked up. Nice price as well. I think you will find this a good group to connect with.

When you get tired of riding the pavement, pick up a Mountain Bike. I think its more of a full body workout and helps burn the weight into muscle faster. Plus its easier to dodge snakes and coyotes than semis and teens texting.

Here it is!

I've got a friend coming over tomorrow to run over everything and help me fine tune it. Hopefully I'll be on it before too long, the wait is killing me!

I might have to take it for a spin around the block tonight though just to see how it feels. Anyone see a problem with that? I'm mechanically sound and followed the instructions that BD sent so I'd think it would be ok to ride it just won't be set to the best positions.

I like the thought of Mountain Biking but I live in Oklahoma in probably the flattest part of the state! We've got one place here that I can think of that has trails and they're more hiking trails than they are MTB trails. I'd love to give it a try if I have the opportunity but I just don't think there is any way I could justify it at this point.

Riding is fun anywhere you get a chance to do it. I prefer trails as the streets around here are crowded with petro burners. You have a great looking bike. All things come in time. The N+1 previously referred to means something N(bikes I own NOW) + 1 (that I just gotta get). When you get to 7 bikes you need to seek out a 12 step program.

Uh oh... One more and I'm in trouble then... Of course, that includes a 3 speed adult trike (not mine really, but my wife's).
