Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My first foray in owning a carbon fiber bike, the Orbea Onix 51cm with Shimano Ultegra group. After riding my Italian steel bikes, Gios and Cinelli, I like the way the Orbea Onix handles and accelerates. It's not a bad bike for the buck, but still prefer my Italian stallions for overall rides.

08 Opal, right before they changed the design. Wonderful bike, Ultegra SL, was supposed to run about 3K, I got it discounted for slightly over 2K on clearance. Honestly one of the best purchases of my life. I have had it for a year now, and I have zero complaints. I came from an Allez Comp Cro-Mo and the carbon feels perfect. Recently outfitted with a power meter so I can actually get in good enough shape to do the bike justice.

About a year ago I posted the pic of my Onix, since then moved on to an Orca which has been a real delight to ride. Most importantly I got it in the right size, because my Onix was one size too big.

Orbea Fletche. Recently upgraded to Ultegra 6700 (Minus FSA crank). I know I need matching water bottle cages, maybe for Christmas.

Its like a new bike.

I ride a 2009 Orca. Great bike and climbs like monkeys on crack! One pet peeve is the tight clearance at the rear brake bridge. I can not run my Rolf Vector Pro wheels on this bike because the tire will hit the bridge. These wheels are taller than Mavic 700c wheels. When I swap them with Mavic on my Merlin Ti, I always have to reposition the brake shoes. OTHER THAN THAT, the Orca is a great bike. I have an 11 speed Campy Chorus kit on it.

I have one but gave it to my son......they are good bikes but the seat posts suck. They have a metal clamp that bolts on directly to the carbon post. The post comes with teeth in the carbon that are used to lock into the metal clamp and they strip out fast. Once they are striped you have to buy a new seat post. It’s a crappy design.

You noticed that too, eh? I've got a grand total of 66 miles on my "new" '09 Onix TDA (a former LBS rental bike). It's my first CF bike (after 35 years of road riding), and WOW! Climbs like a rocket, descends like a smart bomb. And smooth? Like buttah! I'll post pics once I stop riding long enough to snap a few.

I need a little help please. I'm getting back into biking and have an opportunity to pick up a like new, ridden 150 miles, Orbea Vuelta model 2006. It's not as flashy as some of the Orbeas here but the price is fair and I can get more bike buying used. Any comments on the Vuelta? Thanks in advance.

No experience on that bike for me. I have a 2012 Orca Gold and like it very much. It replaced a 2009 Orca which had a failure developing on the top tube in carbon and Orbea replaced it with no questions. Lifetime replacement policy.

Didn't think that Orbea had a lifetime warranty in 2009 nor that they would replace it with the Gold model. I would have thought it would be more equivalent to the Silver now. Kudos on the replacement.

My humble Aqua (first road bike)

The 555mm (54cm size) top tube is a little long for me, but still made it fit fine
