Damn you Red owners!
How can one say "no" to Red? Comparable to the best of the best,
lighter than most and the lowest costing of the top tier groupsets?
Win, Win, Win.
Love my 7800 of course, but a single shifter for gear changes makes the best sense in
the world to me (not to mention all the other features). Thank you Red owners for totally
giving me another "Needful Thing" to drool over. Your "fanboyness" has intrigued me.
And it comes in Black now? What? Yeah!

When my Rival shifters are done I'll get Red shifters and keep the rest Rival.

Absolutely love my Red group. Just wish I would've known about the black version that came out 2 weeks after I bought mine. That would've looked freakin' sweet on my SL1. But yeah, I could not be happier with Red.

You get weight savings with Red but in terms of functionality Rival is fine for me. The Red shifters are great because you get zero loss for the rear which is nice. Rival's been pretty reliable thus far and I run it on two bikes without incident. I've used Shimano and Campy but what I love about SRAM is the shifter ergonomics and the single paddle to shift. I like Shimano shifting but the shifters were never comfortable like my Campy's were, SRAM ended up being most convenient gruppo for me.

Here's a hint - ride more, buy (want) less.
The 7800 is a great groupset.

but I immediately liked the ergonomics of the shifters. When I went from Sora to Dura Ace,
I noticed that the DA's were slightly smaller (and the feel was more noticeable than the visuals).
I have big hands. I like big shifters. I'm going to have to get a good ride on a Red equipped bike.
I'm pretty sure Red will be my next group unless Shimano comes out with something really impressive.

word.
i've used Apex, Rival, Force, and Red.
And i gotta say, there's a huge difference with Red. I haven't mixed the groups, maybe its just the shifters, but Red takes almost no effort, but still feels precise.
Red-Black is cool, but jesus they really have to get their marketing straight. it's like the Ford "Mustang Cobra"

Once you hit the top end groupset in any brand you're gonna be hard pressed to complain.....all a matter of personal preference. Red, DuraAce, Record/Super Record....all ridiculously plush. Hell, the average rider is gonna have a hard time distinguishing between top end and many notches below that rung. That being said....yes.....Red is nice.....and the black looks sharp.

So what's the real difference with the new black SRAM Red cranks? Is it just the black chainrings???

I thought the transition from Shimano to SRAM would take some getting used to but the Double Tap system is great and it's even better with Red because the shifters are more sensitive so it feels less mechanical than Rival. Oddly enough I like the more mechanical feel of Rival because it reminds me of Campy which I really liked. It took me longer to adjust to Shimano from Campy than SRAM from Shimano; I never liked using the brake lever for shifting.

when they break and I can't fix them....or if I find a super deal on Red shifters and decide that the Rival shifters on my Orbea Orca can be used as backups for the Rival shifters on my other bike. I'm being good on bike purchases so I'll probably replace when they break.
