Meanwhile, the Contador case drags on and on and on.

I wondered why Saxo Bank had team training in Israel, of all places.

Interesting result. It seems like the government had sufficient evidence to charge him with something. Anyway, all for the best, in my opinion.

There's supposed to be a ruling in Contador's case Monday, if it's not delayed again for the umpteenth time. Should make an interesting bookend to Super Bowl weekend. Glad to see the book closed on Armstrong, for now at least.

Based on the article it seems more like a failure by the prosecutor to put together a credible case than a vindication of LA.

Why would the government be wasting time and money on this anyway? Doesn't the justice department have anything better to do?

That said, the article would have been more entertaining if they'd gotten a quote from Greg LeMond.

Great. So our taxes paid for some of his dope in the first place. And now we pay to investigate him. Twice. And if he's caught his titles pass to...a bunch of dopers.

sorry, but that is the legal essence of vindication...... they have no case against you. period. done. Can't even say case closed because there will be no case, it never got past the investigation stage.

Hard to believe, but there can be cyclists who are the absolute best in the world at what they do, and can play by the rules. Lance was one. Hate him if you like, it's only renting space in your head, but he's clean.

When I first heard about the investigation that was my thought also. But after I learned more, it seems that the federal government was going to charge him with defrauding a federal agency (USPS) if it were true that he was doping. Still probably would have been a waste of time and money if anything were to come from it.

The irony is that if (and that's a big if) he was doping, it resulted in the USPS getting far more publicity value out of its sponsorship than if he had been clean and never won the TDF. They sponsored the team to get publicity and they got more than they could have ever hoped for while he was riding for USPS. Seems like a stretch to call that fraud, and I really don't see why the US Govt thinks it has any business prosecuting dopers in sports anyway. Most of the drugs are not controlled or illegal to use, they are just against the rules of sport. It would be like the government arresting a basketball player for committing a technical foul.

The next investigation needs to be why they spent so long trying to bring down Lance Armstrong with taxpayer money, and be held accountable for doing so. There are a lot of important things going on in this country that I'd rather the money be spent on.
