The Golden Boy's Trek 720 Re-Re-Re-Rebuild

Bob, It's tough to equal a NE autumn for photo ops.
TGB, I like the fenders that are mounted, they don't take the attention away from a tasteful build. While my touring bike is used to tour on, I used a black Elite bottle cage in the third position (silver Elites in the other two locations) to sort of 'hide' it.
The seat post is a bit remarkable to me as most of the SRs I've had or seen, were sooo scratched.

I was originally looking for a 1990-ish Superbe Pro; but the XC Pro seatpost was a score- it was "used" - the previous owner had cut it. The cut was rough and not really "even" and the price reflected that. I ground down the cut edge. It looks OK- but no one is going to see it again.

So the one thing that I've been not happy with in this whole project has been the front derailleur. I'd REALLY wanted to use the Dura Ace triple stuff front and rear. I knew there was a possibility that it wouldn't work- The bike worked fine and functioned great with both the Z206 and the Cyclone MII, but it wasn't what I wanted- and it was picking at me. Last week I found a Dura Ace 7700 FD on the eBay for $20. I thought I'd have to file some stops or something- but I mounted it up- unscrewed the limit screws- set it back up- and I'll be dipped in sheep **** if this thing didn't shift perfectly! No filing, no defiling- (in fact, the FD is in REALLY nice shape- go figure). It's got plenty of range in the movement, it's got plenty of clearance for the chain on the 28, the cage hits nowhere on the frame or fender... This thing is dominate.

I've wanted to get a pic of this bike in front of this sign for quite a while.
White Rock was a beverage company started here in the middle of the 1800s- when our water was considered magical.
The company still exists, it moved out of town. And our water is not actually safe to drink...

I'm going to have Phil Wood get the hub so it'll take a 6 or 7 speed freewheel. I was working with an Ultra 6- but that doesn't work so well with indexing.
If you need something- I think I kind of have a wheel graveyard in my garage.

@The Golden Boy -- it was mostly in jest -- kicking myself years later for ever letting that wheelset go.
Need to source a rear wheel but shipping from WI probably doesn't make much sense.
Such a beautiful, clever build. Kudos.
