How long you been riding 200+ mi/year?

Starting Year 4 this year

I rode bikes casually for years but may have 500 miles in 20 years.

Retired, Doc says I need more exercise, (bones not handle running.) Sooo...at age 59 bought a 29er
in SoCal .
Started out 10 miles a day
Around golf course/ subdivision.
Ended up with 1200 mi in a couple months

I liked it, got similar bike in Alaska
Got 2000 miles thru summer.

Evolved to a hybrid
On my 4 th year of riding

Near 5000 miles per year now.
Loving it
Wonder how I missed out on 50 years of fun & how much better I could ride now if......
(I guess life got in the way)

Got my first decent road bike in 1968 (Peugeot PX10) and have been riding every year since; far more than 200 miles per year. Greatest mileage year I can remember is 13,000 miles in '85. Just over 9,000 last year.

So . . . 50 years.

I believe the OP meant 2000 miles per year. I also believe he can edit the thread title.

I started keeping track of my mileage when I got my first road bike in Nov of 2010, although I didn't start riding it much until Jan 2011. Since then, I've tracked 57,719 miles, including today's ride. Last year was 11,456 miles.

I'm close tp Rick@OCRR. UO-8 in 1967. A bike with sewups in '73. Raced 76-78 and put on 25,000 miles in that span. Never stopped riding though my 6 years of marriage curtailed it a lot. Now always more than 4000 miles despite some health and chronic injury issues and I've hit 7000 a few times. Had a little fun on a nice day in June two years ago. Went for two rides and "rolled the odometer" for both fix gear and multi-geared bikes for 200,000 lifetime total.

Next goal is modest and won't be much of a challenge. Hitting 50,000 for the Peter Mooney. It is so much fun to ride fix gear that it will just happen.

Edit: to answer the OP's question: over 200/year since probably 1965, easily '67. Over 2000/year since 1972.

Ben

Actually
the mileage isn’t important
I have no idea how many miles I rode
Before I got into cycling. Mileage wasn’t important, few neighborhood rides
Prob not 200 a year.
Now I get thousands.

Would have loved to done it in my performance years.
But having fun now, great exercise, meet good folks. I have 5 bikes I ride? (7 maybe)
Wife 1 , 5 bikes for grandkids .
Garage getting full

WOW
Lot of experience out there.

Can’t imagine going over 10,000 in one year.
Amazing

My bro-in-law was amazed I went over 1000 in 3 months

In the 1970s-early '80s I rode about 400-500 miles a month, mostly commuting and some longer weekend and group rides in Southern California. Ideal cycling climate. Then I returned to Texas and stopped riding until 2015.

I didn't record my 2015 rides. I was in such bad shape I rarely rode more than 3 miles at a time the first month. I'd guesstimate I rode maybe 300 miles in 2015.

In 2016 I began using Cyclemeter but didn't upload to Strava. Rode about 1,600 miles.

In 2017 I was just shy of 5,000 miles. Getting a road bike last summer -- my first in 30+ years -- motivated me to ride farther and more often.

My mileage is way down so far in 2018, partly due to a month-long bout with flu and other ailments, and misc life stuff. Maybe 200 miles a month so far. It'll pick up as the weather improves and my stamina returns.

How long you been riding 200+ mi/year?

Sorry, but ... you mean 200+ mi/month, right?

But if you're seriously asking how long I've been riding 200+ miles per YEAR ...

I started cycling when I was 6. That was 44 years ago. I didn't keep track then, but I rode quite a bit, partly because both my parents were into cycling and we rode together, plus I commuted to school by bicycle, and of course, I cycled all over the neighbourhood.

Between about 17 and 23, I didn't ride much ... possibly something in the 200 miles/year range.

And then on April 29, 1990, when I was 23, I started cycling "seriously" again, and reached 1000 miles (1600 km) in 4 months ... and just continued from there. April 29, 2018 will be 28 years.

I talk in kilometres, of course so ...

I've averaged roughly 10,000 km many years with a big year of over 14,000 km. I've had a few low years in there with only 2000 or 3000 km, but most have quite a bit more.

I have worked (sometimes as many as 4 jobs at once) or have worked and attended further education at the same time most of those years.

Started serious adult riding in April of 1982 and have logged over 220,800 miles (avg. 6,016 mi./year), first on paper and diaries and finally spreadsheets after 1990.

Starting riding in '73 at age 23. Pretty sure I rode several hundred miles annually the first few years. Probably at least a thousand thereafter. Have tracked on spreadsheets since 2010 and they show 3500-4600 yearly for those years. More cycling miles than the average bear but much less than many cyclists.

I started keeping track in 2008 only have about 40000 since then about 4k average. I have run probably by now 80,000 miles keeping track since 1985. Down way less as age more of factor than cycling.

Since about 1980 when I started riding with my two older sons. And since I retired, somewhere between 2000 and 2500 miles. Not too bad for a guy that is 79, and in the snow belt.

Hard to say really...

I'm pretty sure I've been riding > 200 miles a year since I was about 10 or so. At least almost every year.

I've done bike commuting off and on for most of my adult life, but perhaps 50% by bike, and somewhere between 5 to 10 miles each way. Although that included mostly climbing a mountain in the late 90's.

Anyway, I think I had estimated in the past that my average annual mileage was somewhere between 1000 and 2000 miles. Give or take a bit.

Mileage has bumped up somewhat over the last couple of years, with about 5000 miles in 2016 and 6000 miles in 2017. I'm expecting 2018 to be 7000+ miles if I don't have any major injuries.
