Kestrel Evoke 3.0 mech hangar

Just snapped my mech hangar on my Kestrel Evoke 3.0, and I've discovered there are about a million different mech hangars...

Since I'm not too keen on the buy+return cycle, does anyone happen to know where I can find one that works for my bike?

(I bought it on bikesdirect a few years back, so I wouldn't even know where to start looking for a distributor.)

Bonus points for global delivery, as I'm in the UK.

My biggest concern is that none of the links posted look like mine...

I can't post URLs or images, but D435-derailleur-hanger-KESTREL at soshanger DOT com seems like it's the closest to what I've got, and it's got "KESTREL" in the title.

On the side of my current hanger, I've got "D026". Does that mean anything, or is there something more I need to look for?

Actually, I got the bike from bikesdirect, and a search for "bikesdirect D026" shows the correct (looking) hanger.

Is this poor quality? Is it possible to get one more reliable? I know bikesdirect has a history of selling good bikes with sub-standard parts, but how much does a mech hanger matter?

So this is what it looks like...

https://soshanger.com/epages/box1113...0PDD%20D435%22

On the side of my current hanger, I've got "D026"

and a search for "bikesdirect D026" shows the correct (looking) hanger.
The bikesdirect hanger that looks similar is labeled hanger #18

No idea and yes it may be possible.

* It doesn't look like Bikesdirect do international shipping and you'd have to go through a freight forwarder to get it sent to the UK, might be easier to buy the hanger from SOS Hanger.

Ouch. I'm not sure this was necessary, nor does it add anything to the discussion, but maybe it comes because you see a lot of obnoxious posts on here, so I'll let it slide.

I'm just looking for some advice from someone who knows more than I do--would rather not ruin my bike or have cascading failures. Maybe I can be more precise in what I'm looking for?
  • How much does the quality matter for a mech hanger? If I were to just grab the cheapest (or only, in my case) option, does it matter that much?
  • If I've got a hanger that "looks pretty close," and I can install it on my bike, is that good enough, or should I be concerned about fit/wear+tear elsewhere?

If you're talking about the Pilo hanger sold by SOS, it will be fine if it's the correct shape hanger for the frame.

Also make sure you check the hanger alignment with a suitable tool when installing a new one as they don't always bolt on perfectly aligned.

If anyone else is stumbling on this thread, here's the answers to my questions:

First, the Kestrel Evoke 3.0 mech hanger is only offered through bikesdirect. Bummer.
Second, the verdict about quality is still out. Basically, the hangers are meant to break so it doesn't ruin your derailleur.
And third, the "close enough" test is worthless. You basically need something custom made for your bike.

Some resources for finding a good mech hanger, check out: wheelsmfg dot com slash derailleur-hangers dot html

Hey bignate, thanks for posting. I just bought a Kestrel Evoke and snapped the hangar myself. Did you ultimately find one that worked for you? Thanks for posing the question, I’m open to any info you may have.

Joe

I bought mine from bikesdirect, which is where I got the replacement. You can find their listing of parts at (apologies for the bad url) bikesdirect dot com/products/parts/der_hangers.htm, and it was "Hanger #33 " (D026). I bought 2 of them (one for backup!) and had it replaced. Everything is working fine now.
