I don't think I ever posted a pic of my CAAD9 on the forum at all except for a couple race pics from the summer so I'll take this opportunity to officially introduce my trusty race steed. Still working out what to do with the color scheme. Not in love with the blue...thinking all black or red bar tape/saddle accents will work better. Tires need to be plain black.

Red would look OK, especially with the pedals, but a gray to be subtle or white may pop a little better.
Nice ride though.

Bike ≠ Car ≠ Ped.
Not the best pic I ever took of it, but the most recent pic before I sold it.

I just ordered and paid for a 2011 CAAD10 frame in custom team colors. Should be here in January sometime.
Would post pictures, but obviously don't have any yet.
Really can't wait for it to arrive

Saw a CAAD9-4 nestled among a few Synapses and Six's with a Pinarello Dogma hovering above it and an Orca right next to that.
It was a nice time to stand there and compare those nice straight lines classic lines to the newer rigs.
I'm not anti-new bike. I love and lust after them as well. My next bike will be plastic for sure.
But DAMN! I just feel lucky that I got my hands on a BBQ CAAD9 this year.
Viva la' CAAD!

Poor mans bike? compared to what? Di2 serotta? super record colnago?
not really a poor mans bike.. you see the caad in crits on the regular.
by the time I add wheels my bike will be worth more than my car.
heh.. bad comparison.. I bought the car new and have been driving it for 11 years. but still... my point is it's not a poor mans bike. most of us have several thousads into our bikes even after initial bike purchase.
btw, am I like the only person on here with a RED caad9-4? I couldn't for the life of me find BBQ anywhere!!!!

I agree. I probably have close to $3000 on top of a bike I originally paid $1,200 for. Planning to upgrade the group next year to either force or red, so there goes another $1000-$1500. Sad thing is, if I tried to sell it, I probably couldn't get over $1000 for it, but selling it ain't going to happen.

I bought my first Cannodale in 1985 and loved them for years. But since they decided to dump their longtime US staff and move overseas they will never see another penny from me.

Are you sure they dumped staff; The SuperSix is still made in PA. I would imagine by the same staff. I could be wrong.. I thought I read that on weight weenies CAAD thread.

IMO, even if one just purchases the frame for about that much, compared to the
bikes that it's usually compared to (mid-level Carbon rigs), it is far more affordable.
CAADs aren't compared to entry-level carbon bikes (which usually cost twice as much).
They are usually compared to better bikes than that.
$750. for a high quality aluminum frameset set is CHEAP!
The frames CAADs are compared to? $1,000.+ Cervelos
and The Van Dessel Hellafaster (about $850. frame only).
BMC's figure in there somewhere too.
But the CAAD is probably the most common crit bike among amateur racers.

I have another $1500. to drop in it.
(fork, wheelset, post, pedals, brakes)
BUT! If I chose a similar caliber al or plastic frame,
I'd easily be closer to the $6,000. range once done.
I can take everything on my CAAD right now and transfer
it to a top quality full carbon uber bike and it'll all fit in nicely.
I already dropped the price on my original CAAD purchase from $750. to $550.
by selling off my shifters, derailleurs, chain, cassette and crankset.
And I STILL have my OEM brakeset, wheelset & post
(practically gave away the bar/stem).

I knew it was B.S. when they moved manufacturing overseas to supposedly keep CAADs affordable.
They dropped their labor costs while raising their prices. They'll be raking it in now. Thanks Dorel!

That's $4500 on an al bike. I agree that it's not a waste as you can recoup much of that if you wanted to or move it to a new frame, but I'm curious what the allure is. For about the same price you could get a super6 with red. I'm getting a caad because I can get a good bike for the money I'm willing to spend but if I had 4Gs or more I'd probably be looking at a carbon something.

Bike: caad9-4 - 1500.00
DA Cassette: 200.00
DA Chain: 50.00
Eventual purchases:
Look Keo carbons: 500
Carbon bars: 300
Zipp 101's: 1300
Garmin edge 500: 250
SRAM Red crankset: 400
thats 2750 alone. I'm sure I can find some other things to upgrade in the mean time.. derailers, seatpost, TI skewers...
4300.00
I can get FORCE on a BMC Pro Machine for 4200.. but would I have as nice bars? or look keo carbon blades? and wheels? Nope, I get 1700gram eastons... 100 grams less than the cheap rs10's I have stock on the CAAD.
But I get what you're saying.. though, I did ride 2 full carbon bikes before I rode the CAAD and honestly they just felt weird to me. I'm coming from steel, that might be part of it. Believe it or not, it felt flexy like my steel frame. Thats why I felt (FOR ME) the best combination was alu/carbon.

Because everybody is moving their manufacturing to Asia, Cannondale had to. No, I'm not one bit happy about it... I liked the idea that US bicycle designers, engineers and manufacturers were going head to head with the best from other nations and doing well. Gotta wonder if their foray into motorcycling and all of that monetary loss played a part. If I had to buy a new frame set, it'd be Cannondale.
bikerjp, Some of the early aluminum framed bikes (Vitus, for one) didn't create much confidence in the material, but Cannondale and Klein pretty much fixed that over time. Carbon fiber is the darling material at the moment so everyone has to produce a line of CF bikes to stay in business, but I don't think CF is any kind of upgrade from aluminum, nothing against CF tho'. When the modern CF frames are 21 years old like my 3.0 are they going to be rideable, much less upgradeable? Time will tell.
