I'm curious how many people still use bar ends. I have a set of Ergons that I just put on my Mu Uno to try because my other set of grips were painful. I've been busy reading up on bike grips now. (I know riveting)

But a lot of what I read is that bar ends have fallen out of favor because apparently you can catch them on all sorts of things and knock yourself down. I've never had a problem, although I'll let you know after my ride today if the bar end gods are still on my side.

So who still rides with these dastardly things? And what grips do you use?

Advantage of Ergon is they designed the bar end and comfort grip as a integrated combination.. you bought the GR 1?

I have Ergons GR3 on my Brompton and my Bike Friday Tikit,

IF your worry is :
I recommend Figure 8 bend trekking bars , which form a closed loop ahead of your shifter/brake levers ,
and have side hand-grip-positions equivalent of bar ends...

I have 2 of these on my other IGH bikes , with Grip shifters and MTB brake levers...

I use bar ends to be able to flip the bike upside down and let it rest on handlebars without damaging the infrastructure there. I have not been using these, though, on folders.

I too use the Ergon G3's, I am a tall rider and it provides the extension that I need on my dahon. They never come loose and are great for long uphill climbs and moderate trails, where they absorb a lot of shock.

I actually have the Gp2's with the little bar ends. And I put them on a mini riser which apparently is also a sin for people who want to remain cool! I get laughed at by Miami roadies all the time so I think I can weather the storm of whithering gazes.

Going to take the bike out for a spin later to see how I like the feel.

My old folder had Ergon GP3 grips, and I loved everything about them. The bar ends did NOT catch on things, and indeed, it made it easier to hang things like my helmet or a bungee cord from the handlebar. I plan on getting another set for my Mu360 shortly. If you have a twist shifter, be prepared to cut off about an inch from the right-side grip - use a sharp knife and measure twice and cut once!

Just back from my ride. Hadn't used these grips in years. What a mistake that was! Instead of thinking about how much my palms hurt like I was thinking what a great bike the Mu Uno is.

I just put a lower Jetstream handlepost on so there's more weight on my hands then with the stock. So the Lizard Skin tube grips were way too hard on my hands during yesterday's ride.

And the bar ends make me feel like I'm riding on the hoods of my full size kinda so I like that too. I'll post pics tomorrow when I'm at my computer.

I like bar ends on folders. Ergons will go on my Helix when it arrives.
(I have a 2 & a 3 to try out.)
I've never hooked them onto anything while riding, even off road.
My wrists & hands are much happier being able to move around.

I like bar ends too and have them on all my non drop bar bikes (two folders and an MTB) - never snagged them on anything. My Ergon GP2s are comfortable, but the wide/flat heel-of-hand rest actually impacts fold width (<1"), enough to get stuck in a few tight places I try to stash my bike.

Grips and bar ends are nice for my hands/wrists, but they don't change my back angle much which I prefer. Jury rigged an aero drop postion to my bars and that's done the trick - made my folder as comfortable as my drop bar gravel bike.

Yeah, i still use barends for more hand positions... Pictured are LitePro models. I've since switched to Ergon.

Thanks. Here's a recent one, now with the Ergons. I'll say that the LitePro grips were very nicely made, and cost half the price of the Ergons. Their problem, however, was weight for the ends, the horns were metal. Not super heavy, but noticeably heavier than the Ergons...

I still use bar ends, they mimic the position of the hoods on my road bike. I couldn't imagine riding more than an hour without them. In years of riding, I have never had a problem with them catching on anything.

I have been using them for some time and actually prefer aluminum ones cut down a bit, twined with paracord and shellacked. They are nice for flats as you can loõsen them a bit and rest the bike upside down on the tripod of the bar ends and saddle for easier wheel removal. Much like bull horns in terms of grip options.

Ergon GP3 on my Brompton, love 'em. I don't know what I'd be riding close enough to catch them on anything.

I think they're gp2's. They look proportionally longer because the mini riser I think. But they are the short bar ends.

I use crane creek ergo bar ends on all my bikes with flat bar. I find them extremely comfortable. Never had any problems.

Wow, that’s quite a short stem! Did you have to cut it down, or is it just at its lowest setting, or is it a fixed, non-adjustable length? I know Thor sells some of those.

I have Ergon GP1’s on my Downtube 8FH. Used to have GP2’s. Ergons are awesome. Those Germans, they actually do research. What a concept!

I also have an Ergon SFC3 saddle. Had to buy it from Ohm Cycles in North Vancouver because “not for export to Canada”. They stock them as It’s standard equipment on their e-bikes.

It is the short stem Thor sells. It's a fixed height. I think they're made for the Jetstreams.

I'm only 5-3 so the way the bike rides now when I hold onto the bar ends is as if I'm leaning over and holding onto the hoods of a road bike. I like that position more than when I'm too upright.

Yes, the stem is for a Dahon Jetstream.
