Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Are these bikes still somewhat competitive? I know the rider makes the difference. I’ve come across one I can get in relatively decent shape for $300. It has the Shimano 105 gear.

Also, I can’t find anywhere how much they weigh.

I appreciate any insights anyone can give here. Not sure if it’s worth that price. Thanks.

You can find some specifications at Vintage Cannondale. They have old Cannondale catalogs and other info.

I put about 8k km on a CAAD4 frame over the last few years with no issues. Geometry is agressive enough to feel racy but they're a bit harsh by modern frame standards.

They produced this livery in several levels over 1998-2000. This is a pretty early one, can tell from the threaded headset. But it's high-level! Probably cost a couple thousand new. Maybe more

OTOH this was from the time when Cannondale was still touting the utter rigidity of its frames, before they started adding features to make them ride smoother, and also when the skinniest tires were in vogue.

Also it's an XL bike. Are you an XL person?
