I have been there once before and found the main MUP along the Willamette River/Alton Baker Park, but I have seen this recent article that gives Eugene the #3 spot in the USA as a bike mecca. I will be going there to explore in a couple of weeks for a few days.
I haven't seen specifically what makes it rank so high. I am used to Davis, CA and Folsom, CA that I find very bike-friendly; however, neither of made it in the top 50.

I'll be heading up there in a couple weeks for about a week. My friend lives in the West Hills of Eugene and there are several areas near there. Bike Friday is located on West 11th and REI is on Lawrence St, they would be good sources of info for you....

I've been to Eugene, and simply saw a lot of people on bikes. In my view, what makes a good bike town is just the popularity of cycling, which is something that takes years to evolve through social acceptance of cycling, gradual modification of motorist behavior, and demand for better cycling conditions. Based on my visit, I'd say where to ride would be anywhere and everywhere.

I live outside eugene and I can say don't ride in eugene ….get outside the town and see the country....eugene is nothing to write home about

Lots of good riding here in Eugene, one of the better paths is called Fern Ridge Path. I normally ride from the .
east side of Springfield to the far west side of Eugene. Nice long ride but always worth the excitement

eugene is not the town it used to be homeless everywhere,drugs are rampant and it now has atleast 40 pot shops....its an embarrassing town now

My wife and I go down to Eugene at least two times a year to ride the bike trails. We really like the trail that runs along both sides of the river. It has many parks to stop and a lot of restaurants to eat along it. We usually stay at one of the Best Westerns next to the college while we are in town as they are less than a half a block off the trail. When you are in town stop in at one of the many bike shops and pick up a free bike map of Eugene.

“Homeless and Pot Shops” welcome to the western states. The wife and I stopped riding Portland OR bike trails about five years ago.

We have it here in Southern California. In particular , Ventura has had trouble with fighting the transient and homeless population. It is growing as we are now considered a "magnet" because Gavin Newsome came out with the homeless bill of rights so the police are not allowed to move them from camping pretty much anywhere they like. I believe most of the problem is mental illness that is not dealt with. I have been chased before by some and yelled at by some. I still ride my bike , I refuse to give up something that makes me happy . My motto is "Don't Engage"! II would love to cycle in Oregon. My wife and I are going up there in a month or so . We are flying into Eugene and am going to look up local bike shops . Hopefully there would be some vintage road bike people there. Any suggestions? Joe joesvintageroadbikes.wordpress

Do a few searches on Ride with GPS and Map My Ride. Most of the bike clubs in the Valley have their rides on Ride with GPS.

Don't leave you bike unlocked. Bring it into your motel room at night.
