Yeah that's it. Hilarious. I'm doing my first BB pull and regrease tonight at an open shop. Any advice or beginner's mistakes I need to watch out for?

Make sure you're not tightening when you should be loosening.

If you're using a Park Tool BBT-22, use a 2" bolt with the same diameter/threading as your crank arm bolt (if the shop has one) to hold the tool to the spindle before cranking away on it.

Drive side. If you ever forget which side does what, just remember that tightening is opposite the direction the crank moves while pedaling forward.

Yeah, I realized your brain was backwards when I started pulling things apart haha.

So, the reason for the repairs was a creak in the drivetrain. All in all, I regreased the bottom bracket threads, greased and tightened the pedals, cleaned the chain, straightened the chainline, tightened and greased the chainring bolts, trued my rear wheel, and got a vintage Brooks B15 narrow with an aluminum post from the parts bin. All in all, a pretty productive 2 hours. However, I still have a creak. Whenever I change pedal directions with any force, it creaks like an old office chair. What am I missing here? Also, the Brooks has some cracking. Is there a way to fix that, or should I just oil it up so it doesn't crack anymore?

Ha! Sorry about that dude. I read what I wrote and was like "uhhhhhh...."

It could be your pedal spindles. I had a creaky MMKS Sylvan that drove me nuts.

Was any of that "The Evens" stuff any good? I never felt like Fugazi got bad but I never even gave the evens a chance.

No worries. It happens to me all the time. And by spindle you mean the part that actually goes into the pedal that I can't do anything about right? Mine are pretty beat up anyhow so I may have to get new ones soon.

I grew up being a straight-edge kid in the 80s/early 90s playing in hardcore bands. Aside from that, straight-edge has nothing to do with what a great band they were. I still listen to Minor Threat very regularly. Some records never get old.
