FS: 81 Issues of Cycling and The Bicycle (1930-55) + some!
Hello friends,
The lot has sold! Cheers!
For sale is a lot of approximately 81 issues (if I counted correctly) of The Bicycle and Cycling weekly magazines published in the United Kingdom. 19 issues of Cycling are from the year 1930 and these are in individual slip cases, and the remainder of both publications are almost all dated between 1949-1956. These came to me from three different collections which I purchased separately from England. I've enjoyed reading through many of them over morning coffee and am prepared to pass them onto another collector who can appreciate the intimate knowledge they offer about the cycling scene in the United Kingdom during these golden years of the industry and sport. Almost all of them still have their staples in place and all of the pages are bound, and every copy I've opened has had all of its pages intact with few markings. You'll note on some of the covers of the newer copies of Cycling one of the collectors wrote their name (Sandhorn) in the top corners. It is on these same copies that the staples are most notably deteriorated from rusting, but it does not prevent their opening nor has it ruined the paper.
Most of these magazines are between 30-40 pages in length. There is enough interesting information about cycling as an industry and sport written between them all to fill several volumes.
Additionally, I am providing a rare and rather minty original copy of the 1938 UK Raleigh catalog, as well as a copy of the 20th edition of the Cycling Manual (published by Cycling magazine) which I believe is the 1946 printing.
