Yup, there is a difference.. Could be the way they go about making them. The 85 Prestige and the 85 Competition are Japan's offererings.. Somebody in this thread has the Grand Prix of the same vintage. Would love to snag one of those in red..

Sweet!

IMO, I would be topping off with some white hoods. Or if you find some Shimano 105 hoods/levers together, and preferably white. IMO, would really bring her out!!

That is a beautiful bike, and I want one!!! I have the 85 Raleigh Prestige and Competition, and they are listed in the 85 Raleigh Catalog right beside the Grand Prix. They are stunning bikes, and ride even better. They have a red one like yours on Ebay, and in my size. But, the seller is asking way, way too much. I would love to have it making me have all 3 85 Raleighs with the chrome headtube, which IMO, is a beautiful..

You got a sweet one there!! : thumb:

I picked up this Prestige this summer at a yard sale. It had been neglected, and has a few blemishes, but after giving it some love it is truely a pleasure to ride.
Shame about the saddle though.

Super!! I think we are the only Raleigh (vintage)Prestige owners in this forum!

Yours is just like mine. No matter about the seat, IMO, the Prestiges, and most of the 85 Raleighs with the chrome headtube are hard to find. And to find one in your size is a treat. BTW, yours is my size too...

Look at mine, I swapped out the seat with a white Chinese Brooks copy, cost me $70 to my door. New bartape, used Shimano hoods/levers.. Set of cheap wheels and tires off Ebay.. And she rocks with looks and ride..

I don't, i'm in NYC for the next several months, and the bike is in storage.
I pulled this pic off of a previous thread on BF.

Nice bikes! I've never seen a Blue Streak in color. And the '49 Sports is really wonderful, especially getting to meet the old fellow.
Here's one I forgot that I probably aughta show. It's a '47 if I remember right.

I was going to post recent pics of these, but they both need some repair work, so I'll go with existing pictures for now.

This being Raleigh week an' all, I thought I'd celebrate it by getting me this '86-ish Record Sprint. I've looked at them before, because I'm of the JPS-Is-Cool generation, but they were either very shabby or very expensive. This one was neither. Interesting mix of parts (Weinmann, Shimano, Sachs-Huret, Sugino), but that was not uncommon, apparently.

Here are some Raleighs:

The blue one with white bar tape is my girlfriends 78' Record Ace mixte. Found this bike and another on craigslist (other is a record that is being built as a beater/commuter) for $20. Both bikes were trashed but the Record Ace was complete minus derailleurs and shifters. I want to find the proper derailleurs to return to stock.

This is my main bike it's an 87' or 88' USA pro. I don't have much info on this bike but it was built by one of the owners of my LBS. All Reynolds 531c. It's built up with Mavic rims laced to Campy hubs, Nitto bars and stem, Campy brakes, Shimano 600 Drive train. Adding a Brooks B17 on Monday (just ordered today doh!) and all Campy Drive train soon.

Third is my 69' Grand Prix. Was my main beater for about a year. Currently taken apart.

My new to me Super Course from Balindamood shipped down from Alaska, 1985 model. Going to get new decals from velocals and strip the paint for the full chrome look. Now I'm thinking I have a full Dura-Ace 7700 group and a tri color 600 7spd. I want to go with a polished component look so I'm leaning DA. Who knows the difference between the Prestige and Super Course and Competition, just the components, ?right?

On mine, the stays and the head tube are clear coated, but the rest is CHROME. What a difference, there's no rust on the clear coat, unlike the fork and headset. Instead, there're clear coat scratches, but I guess it won't matter since you're taking it all off! Keep us posted. I'm thinkin of starting a chrome headtube porn thread...

I had bought mine late 1983 NEW so it may as well be a 1984 model. My cranks are original as already stated and they are stamped Raleigh and a 170(mm) on them and thats it. They are dual sprocket 42-52 gearset. The rest of the gruppo as I think everyone calls it is also original except for the recent upgrade on brakes for the 3rd time over the years. All the running gear is original Suntour AXR.

Also, my original seatpost was identical to yours in silver, however, my original handlebar stem was black (Hence why I replaced it with an upgraded unit in black. I changed the seatpost to black also because my next upgrade will be black MSW rims with the same original silver hubs and red nipples with silver CX-ray spokes. Front wheel I plan to lace 18 holes only (Velocity Fusion 18h rim), the rear will remain the original lace pattern in 36 (Velocity Areohead o/c 36h rim).
