And maybe I missed something, but I didn't see anyone suggesting not to do it because of sex.

LoL.
It's amazing how people who have never done something tell others why they shouldn't do it.
Iohan Gueorguiev had the same idea. The entirety of his plan was to cycle from Prudhoe Bay to Argentina and camp along the way. He made it.

Unless I missed something, nobody else appeared to think the sex of the OP was a factor.

I noted the same thing just above. During my travels I have encountered numerous women riding solo. I can think of six off the top of my head, including one woman participating in the Great Divide race. Three other pairs also come immediately to mind.

I think for the most part, people are trying to Help this young lady to live her dream ... with the least wasted time ad easily avoidable pain. As I say ... read the thread. Read post #8 . Nobody is saying, "You cannot do this." People have been saying, "This is a little more serious than you think---Particularly if you bring a pet---and those of us who have done this sort of stuff might have a few good ideas for you."

2 days and not one response from OP?
That’s a bit odd imo.
I would be surprised if someone bold enough to invite total strangers to cycle across the country with them is too offended to reply.
Must be busy...

There are lots of ways to make enough money with art, on the road. Don't let the ignorant naysayers slow you down.

She's wanting to escape from LA. A worthy endeavor. Maybe help her out rather than put obstacles in her way.
I say do it.
No plans? No problem. It may scare some people, but for others it's an adventure or a way of life.
I say move, get out of LA. Improvise. It's stimulating. It's alive.

I'm not sure what is meant by "little money."
Enough for a day? A week? Six months?
For some people "little money" is four thousand dollars. For others, four hundred. For others less.
You can do it anyway.

Plenty of homeless people have dogs.
Check the stats on dogs in "shelters" and pounds. Numbers and percentages, and average lifespans. What percentage make it out?
I've seen some happy dogs living with loving travelers.
Much better than spending their short lives in cages, or enclosed in rooms with walls. Ever notice how incredibly happy they are to get out?
Almost like escaping from LA. Or Alcatraz.

Even simple things like food need to be PLANNED to some extent or it's all just foolishness.

Some people travel with dogs. I love this story.

First started touring by bicycle in the 70's. Met up with a group of true hippies that traveled the country in a van going from work to work to work. It is how they paid their way. Sold art work as well. It can be done, just takes a strong will to do it.
My buddy Dan followed the Dead for a year selling food at concerts and living out of his VW Bus. Most of everything he earned was spent keep that miserable POS on the road so he could get to the next show.

You must be speaking from experience or you wouldn't be calling people ignorant, right? Give us all the benefit of that experience! Please tell us the secret to riding a bike 10k miles while keeping a dog fed and healthy, creating art, finding buyers for the art, and biking through some really inhospitable desert. Keep in mind that if she really intends to do the trip she outlines within a year, she is going to have to develop and stick to a timetable to not get caught in the wrong terrain at the wrong time of year.
More power to the OP to embarking on an adventure. I just think people who know something about bikes, art and/or dogs should be able to suggest maybe reining the ambition of this in a bit so it doesn't turn into a nightmare without somebody calling them "ignorant naysayers." Maybe she does have a plan for taking care of the dog. Maybe it's small enough to fit in her jersey, but I find the idea of taking the poor thing on what looks to be a rather grueling road trip with "no plan" rather alarming.

I’m convinced OP is not a troll. Money and plans are overrated. I’d go on this adventure in a heartbeat, but can’t get that much time off work.

I lived in a van while camping at various climbing areas for almost a year. Would have been longer if I'd had a better van.
I don't think I could have made it work with a dog. I was usually in dog friendly areas too.
It gets a lot lonelier than you'd expect. You usually come back in a worse place employment wise. It's harder to sit still.
Let someone watch the dog and ride to Jtree and back. Depending on how that trip goes, you can decide if you want to put it up for adoption and head out.

The level of ignorance, the paucity of thought (displayed in some Other threads, not this one ... ).... whatever ... it's the internet.

You say that as if it were a negative thing.
