Peugeot A08??
I am guessing this is an early 70s A08. Has some replacement parts, including the alloy rims, 12-speed freewheel, saddle and brake levers. It needs a lot of little stuff, but the frame is good and everything is functional. Even the Simplex derailleurs are fine.
Not sure about the year. No serial number on the bottom bracket. Guesses welcome.
The fancy cut lugs, outlined in black, are a nice touch for a low-end bike.
Should be fun to wrench on.

Not an AO 8. The front dropout has only a single eyelet not a double and the "Aztec Lugs" of the AO 8 are absent. From the lugs used, I would guess a P 10 of the early 1970s. https://www.peugeotshow.com/images/1974_2.jpg

Also the cable guides on an AO-8 were cheap metal "ears" you could bend of the housing not cable guides like you've pictured

Also note the absence of a seat post shim.
The chrome NERVAR chain guard came into use in 1972.
Maybe my eyes are failing but the fork ends (not dropouts) appear to be forged.
My guess would be somewhere near to 1974 but an not one of the forum's many Peugeot experts.
Shall look forward to reading what they have to relate...
You will discover a specific date mark on the backside of the cycle's Simplex Prestige rear derailleur -

Those are Bocama Model 14 type II lugs, which show up on an interesting range of models from different manufacturers. Raleigh used them on a few Super Courses during the anniversary head badge period - mostly on 25.5-in specimens, though I think I've seen one 23.5. Allegro switched from Nervex Professionals to these lugs on all of their top-line 531-tubed machines c.1960-61 and used them well into 1974, when they switched to the simpler Bocama Professional set. I've only seen these on Peugeot PA-10s and P-10s.

My thoughts are that this is a variant of the P-10 or PA-10. I don't recall ever seeing those Bocama Model 14 type II lugs on any other Peugeot models. On the other hand, I don't remember seeing a Peugeot below the PR-10 without brazed-on top tube brake cable stops. The graphics are c.1970-74. Odds are pretty good it came into the country through other channels and was originally sold in a non-U.S. market.

A few more pics. Worth noting is that the Mafac Competition brakes were used only on the USA PX series. At least in 1974. Everything else in the US got Mafac Racer brakes.

Are those 27-in alloy rims, and not 700C? My suspicion is that this bike left the factory with budget sewup wheels and maybe even MAFAC Racers; the MAFAC Competitions look later than the frame to my eye - I would have expected the engraved variant, not the ones like these with the sticker in a slot. That said, the P-10/PA-10 seem to be built by their own rules, even down to the graphics.

Sure, took them myself, I had an AO-8 pass through my hands about 4 years ago, I came to the conclusion it was and AO model looking through this site at catalogs and decals etc. I am about 90% its an AO-8
