Two Brooks Professionals

I've acquired more Brooks Professionals than bikes in recent months...

Prices include any paypal fees and shipping:

1. Brooks Professional "Pre-Softened" in black, excellent condition. Looks new - I don't think it's been ridden but it has had a couple owners. $120 SOLD

MORE PICS

2. 70s Brooks Professional (small rivets) in dark brown which might have been black at one point. Showing its age a bit but seems perfectly serviceable.

MORE PICS

FWIW, I've got one of those "pre-softened" Brooks Professionals (came on an old Cdale touring bike I picked up cheap) and was very happy to find it wasn't really any softer than my kinda newish 1977 Brooks Pro and it's actually a little stiffer than a new Brooks Pro, what with the slightly thicker leather.

A really nice choice for someone who finds that B17s get a little too saggy a little too soon.

B17's are saggy? Never heard that one before, although I've never had one either.

Compared to my 1977 Pro, yeah, they're pretty soft; or rather they break in really fast. The new ones I have, anyway (two of 'em). Never had a vintage one.

In my experience the wide (Champion Standard) gets softer faster than the narrow.

Not when new, of course. But a B17 will get to looking like this a lot sooner than a Pro.

It's the leather they're using now. Comes from cows that sit around watching their phones too much.

I think it's been proved out over the course of many Brooks threads that there's only so many good cuts on a cow and sometimes you get one and sometimes you don't, regardless of model. They're organic and quality will always be less predictable. I've been riding a bombproof B17 Standard rain and shine for well over 25 years and it's never been tensioned, hasn't cracked or split or stretched. It remains firm, just how I like it. It's my Magic saddle. And yes I just use a little proofhide on the top twice a year and maybe a smear underneath every couple of years. I've had Brooks presoftened Pros bail out in 5 years. You never know for sure

In my opinion yes. Brooks have a finite life in my opinion and especially B17s, but that is a trade off for comfort. On the other hand, the ridiculously thick leather of the pro select I have had for close to 10 years is amazing. I haven't put serious long distance miles on it like I have the B17, but that saddle hardly shows sits bone dents! And it is from 1980! it is comfortable though it took a LoooooooNG time to get there.

Might help to put up some top and bottom view photos to show what the underside condition looks like as well as how the top is holding up.
(Just trying to help)
