Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Possible to put Ultegra chainrings on FSA SL-K Light crank?

Would it be possible to do? I'm not sure how the Ultegra chainrings work, with the non-visible bolts from the front. Are they/do they come in 110BCD?

I want chainrings to match the rest of my Ultegra 6700 Grey groupset, not sure if black will cut it...

These (except in grey): https://www.universalcycles.com/shopp...24&category=50

I put Ultegra rings on my Force crank.

It wasn't the non-visible bolt version though.

6700 comes in 110 BCD, but you may be faced with the need to buy a whole crankset to strip the chainrings from. I don't think you're going to find those rings separately. I got my chainrings by buying a whole crank in some weird off size that apparently no one wanted, because it was on clearance as the last one in inventory for the price of a new ring. They even threw in a bottom bracket to sweeten the deal.

FSA makes Dark Grey, Silver, and Black chainrings. Call them directly and ask. I just purchased a Grey ring set as well as a Black.

Which series of Ultegra?
Did you get any improvement in performance?

I had poor shifting up front with my Force setup, but since my LBS replaced my FD, it's been great.
But when I wear out my chainrings, I would try Ultegra if they shift better,

I would get some Praxis Works chainrings. The shift from the small to large is incredible.

Thats what I was actually looking at, but they currently only make black/black and black/silver and those don't really match anything on my new bike, although if I don't find anything else I'll probably just go black/black Praxis.

OP you can do it, but I think you would find after the fact that it is more important for the rings to match the crank than to match the other components. Besides, I am sure the Shimano rings are heavier than the FSA. What for? If you must have a match, then sell the FSA crank (that is why ebay was invented) and get the Ultegra crank you really want. No compromises. If the FSA crank is fairly new, the exchange may not cost as much as you think, at least not so much more than two high end chain rings, which are not cheap.

Hey, I just checked ebay and new 6700 Ultegras are going for the same price as used FSA SLK lights. Go figure. And no money out of pocket for chain rings. What is holding you back?

BB30 is what's stopping him. He would need an adapter. I would rather stay bb30 on a caad10 frame.

Yeah, after I posted, that thought came to me. I would rather stay BB30 also. But it is kind of a test of how important the match is to him.

BTW, what's wrong with Shimano they can't get on board with BB30. Enough of the dual systems. I really don't think they are going to win this one.

BB30, like has been said. And i've heard FSA chainrings suck at shifting compared to Shimano or Praxis Works.

Got it. I'm sure there are shifting differences among chainrings; I've just never observed them. Haven't been thinking about it, so it never seemed to make a difference to me. I just push the left lever and the chain shifts on the front. Smoothly? Quietly? I don't know. As long as it shifts, I'm happy. I hope you find what you want, and it works out well.

If your after better shifting and color match then just go with a shimano crank and a KCNC adapter. I've been using one for almost a year now and it works great with no problems at all..

6700 is 130 BCD (standard), where 6750 is 110 (compact).

Yeah, but then I'd have to buy a crankset + BB + adapter and end up costing way more.

Don't put the Ultegra 6750 chainrings on FSA cranks... It'll be a waste of time AND fugly. The shape of the rings will probably stick out from the crank spider and the color will be mismatched. It will stand out like a different colored junkyard door slapped on a car.

FSA cranks are spec'ed so often on bikes now, it is almost the norm not to have the cranks match the shifters and derailleurs especially if the BB shell is for non-threaded BB system...

What kind of budget are you working with?

Just the crankset and adapter, the BB and adapter are one. Depending on where you shop you could get both for under $250.

As I had already pointed out, if OP is willing to adapt a Shimano crankset, he can trade what he has on ebay for very close to break even. Not counting cost of the adapter, of course. And used for used.

So if you buy the Ultegra crankset, you don't need an Ultegra BB?

Shimano doesn't make BB30 cranks or BB. You'll need an adapter to make it work.

I believe some adapters are just a sleeve that accepts the external bearing cups of the Shimano BB; some like the KCNC pictured above have their own bearings.

Nope!! Just the crank and adapter as pictured below.. The adapter is the BB for BB30 to Shimano cranks.

6600. Absolutely shifts better.

I had to file down the peg/tab that prevents the chain from dropping between the crankarm and the chainring. The Ultegra peg was too long, and it butted up to the inside of the crankarm.
