Therein lies the rub when buying custom bikes. A certain percentage of custom bikes were ordered because the buyer had a body type that is far enough out of the ordinary that they can't find a stock bike that fits properly. According to a couple framebuilders I know the percentage of such bike is lower than I would expect, but it's always a good idea to ascertain at least seat tube and top tube measurements when buying a used custom build.

Any ideas about the actual provenance and history of this one? It looks like a repaint to me, but the parts are obviously reasonable and look to be in pretty good shape.

I always wonder that when people advertise "custom" as a selling point. Maybe it would be more attractive if I knew the original rider's height, PBH, arm length, and flexibility?

You need to be realistic. I knew a guy who drilled through his top tube and glued in a brass wood screw for a pump peg.
