Greetings from SoCal

After moving out this way from Chicago, I've embraced hiking and cycling to take advantage of all the nature and great weather in and around Orange County. It's a good fitness complement to playing ice hockey regularly! So far I'm exclusively a solo rider, typical rides 10-30 miles, sometimes pushing a bit over 40. I might try a beginner's group ride, pushing the distance up a bit, or maybe trying out some bikepacking on Catalina Island if I get ambitious.

Another welcome. Catalina is a great place to visit. I've kayaked across to the Island (nearly died the first time when the wind came up) and have MTBed across the whole darned island. IMO, the San Gabriel Mountains, specifically Glendora Mountain Road and Mount Baldy are beautifuller than Catalina, but you should experience both.
Have safe and be fun.
