Hello from Italy
Hi to all. I'm Claudio and live in the Alps in Northen Italy. I'm riding MTB for over 30 yars and just recently begin to interest myself in road bike, in particular the vintage bike with steel frame.
So i bought an old Legnano mod. 54 Special of the yar 1976, restore it, and begin to ride with them. My hope is to be able next yar to run the over 200 km of "L'Eroica" in Tuscany.

I am really interested in knowing if it is just as hard to find Vintage bicycle components in Italy as it is here in the USA.
How far north of Vicenza are you?
Are Italians just as selective about using non-italian manufacture components on their bicycles as they used to be?

I live near Trento, about 100 km north of Vicenza. Do you have visited Vicenza?

Yes... Stationed at Vicenza in the Mid 70's. Made it to Trento on one ride. Only 100 km but it was a long ride and mostly UP! Please post what ever you find and your progress. The "L'Eroica" in Tuscany sounds wonderful...

Do you know the retired American cyclist Greg Lemond? He was focusing on skiing. The skiers used to ride bikes in the off season to stay in shape for skiing. Once he started riding bikes though, he never went back to skiing. He won the Tour de France 3X, twice after he had lost lung capacity from being shot by his brother-in-law.

I know the Greg Lemond history and his victory. I practice a little alpine skiing but a lot more cross country skiing (is the right translation? "sci di fondo" is the italian phrase). I don't know english very well and often I'm too lazy to search in google translate the words.

I restore the bike but I made a "conservative restoration". So no repainting and excange only of the broken parts with time period equivalent. Until now I made about 500 km with it and it ride very well.

Thank's. In wich area of Italy do you ride?
Living in the Alps I have a lot of choice of wonderful climbs to do (I live within an hour's of car travel from places like Stelvio, Pordoi, Mortirolo, Fedaia ecc.) BUT ..... I don't have a lot of choice of smooth rides on flats.

We just returned this past Monday from Rome after 4 days and 12 days exploring Sicily as turista's. My 4th vacation in Italy, have also been to Tuscany and Umbria. We managed to bring home some very good Brunello and Montepulciano wines We like Italy as you can see.
