Portland Design Works Radbot 1000 Tail light Questions
How do you open it to change batteries?
Mounted at the back of my rack, the light is about an inch from my back tire (without a back fender). Do you think I'll trash it with it being so close to tire spray?
Thanks

Opens with a phillips head screw. I think it would withstand the spray, but I'd install a fender if you are going to ride a lot in the rain.

Yea one of my least favorite features of the Radbot is that it screws shut. Good for keeping parts of it from going on walkabout, though. I've ridden thru gobs of road splash including spring thaw many times with a DZ and PBSF on the seat stays. I've only had one instance on one bike of one of the PBSFs suffering from it - dried it out in a container of raw rice and good as new. Cant speak for the Radbot though.

Not a big fan of the phillips head screw. I keep thinking about finding a captured screw the right size with a knob on it, but that's a lot of work

If my experience with Radbots is common, then you shouldn't have problems with them in the wet weather. I was on the Sunday, pouring buckets of rain, Cycle Oregon weekend ride. I had both of my Radbots* running. And despite the amount of rain coming down**, neither light had problems.
* Have a Radbot 1000 mounted to both the left and right sides of a Tubus Cargo rack on my Surly LHT.
** At one point, the space between my Rudy Project glasses and the prescription insert lens was almost filled with water.

I have a PBSF. When I change the batteries I also do a bit of maintenance. I put a very light coat of petroleum jelly on the rubber seal. Seems to work for me.
